Stoneham Theatre’s Annual Auction to be held at Memorial Hall on Feb 9
Proceeds Support Mission of Theatre and provide Financial Aid for Students in young company Educational Programs
STONEHAM, Massachusetts – January 7, 2013 – Stoneham Theatre is holding its annual fundraising event – The Auction – on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Memorial Hall, Melrose. The cocktail-style event will feature live and silent auctions, performances by children in the young company education program and entertainment by the Beaudoins featuring Gerry Beaudoin.
More than 100 Prizes Up for Auction
Local comedian Tony V. will serve as auctioneer, adding humorous and light-hearted commentary to the evening. Live auction prizes include trips to Santa Fe and Disney World, as well as round-trip limousine transportation to a 2013-2014 Patriots game and dinner with members of The Rat Pack after one of their performances at Stoneham Theatre. Over 100 silent auction items will also be available.
Weylin Symes, Stoneham Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, said, “We are excited to put a new spin on this annual event. By creating a cocktail atmosphere, guests are able to mingle with each other over drinks, food and great entertainment. It’s become a wonderful tradition for so many of our loyal supporters who love the stage and wish to support Stoneham Theatre’s mission in a generous and tangible manner. We look forward to an evening of great fun and to seeing our friends have a chance to win some fabulous prizes.”
A portion of the proceeds of the evening will support Fund-A-Need, the financial aid program of the theatre’s young company, where students in grades one through twelve explore the wonders of the stage and receive training in a professional environment.
Since it was formally established in 2007, Fund-A-Need has assisted over 200 students with grants ranging from 5% to 100% of tuition and fees. In 2012, 75 students received some form of financial assistance. One grateful parent of a former student wrote, "Without the scholarship we received from Stoneham Theatre, our daughters would not have been able to pursue their love of acting.”
Students Show Their Appreciation
Typical of the correspondence from appreciative young company students is the following: “Receiving a scholarship to participate in Stoneham Theatre's summer program meant that I could continue to grow in the theater, despite extremely difficult financial times that had fallen on my family.”
Parents also rave about their children’s success in our program: “As a parent, there is nothing better than to see your child "in their element” and have a feeling of belonging and success on her face every time she heads to the theater. Thank you for everything you do.”
