The Reading Public Library has announced  the appointment of Amy Lannon to the position of Assistant Director.

From 2003 to 2012, Ms. Lannon was Young Adult Services/Reference Librarian at the Reading Public Library.

Prior to working for the Reading Public Library, Ms. Lannon worked for several years for a large law firm where she served as Reference Librarian, later as Director and Corporate Intelligence Manager, developing and implementing knowledge management initiatives and research resources.

Ruth Urell, Director of RPL, said “Ms Lannon is deeply dedicated to the role the public library can play in the life of the community – particularly this community.  She is involved in many initiatives in Reading and she is connected to cultural and educational activities that enhance and improve the quality of life, and education, in Reading.  She has a clear vision of the role that a public library can play in the enrichment of lifelong education and in student’s educational experiences and she has the ability to see that vision through.  Her managerial and administrative skills, and her technical abilities and understanding, are integral parts of her contribution to moving the library forward into the future.  Amy is an outstanding Librarian, and demonstrated her ability to work with the public and colleagues during her nine years in the Reference Department and as Young Adult Services Librarian, a position she shared with a colleague.  She designed and built the library’s website, and led the development of web enhancements, mobile applications, and the library’s use of social media, integrating new advancements into our everyday library work.”

Ms. Lannon earned her Master’s in Library Science at Simmons and her A. B. degree in Classics at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

She lives with her husband and two sons in Reading.
