Salem Home Care Owners Prove Keurigs to be More than Just a Coffee Maker
Salem Home Care Owners Prove Keurigs to be More than Just a Coffee Maker
June 25, 2012 – Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley
received a donation of 364 Keurig Mini Coffee Makers from Right at Home, In
Home Care and Assistance, a local senior home care agency located in Salem and Haverhill owned
by Marblehead
residents Rosaleen Doherty and Jay Kenney…..and they have proved to be more
than just coffee makers.
Keurig sales at
Elder services have reached almost $9,000 with proceeds benefitting The Elder
Care Fund. This fund is a financial resource available to any older adult 60
plus who lives in the Merrimack Valley and finds
themselves in either an emergency or unique financial situation with no other
resource. For the last 18 years the Elder Care Fund has helped hundreds
purchase food, prescription medications, fuel, bedding, medical or adaptive
equipment, rent, security deposits, transportation and respite care. The need
is tailored to each individual request to help support and elder’s choice to
live independently and safely at home. Rosaleen Doherty was approached by
Keurig about how to use the mini coffee makers to raise money for Massachusetts
elders. The machines were being updated by a new model. Using her connections
in the community, Rosaleen worked with Elder Services to fundraise for this
vital cause.
Over the last
two years Elder Services has seen a 100% increase in usage of Elder Care Funds
rise from $40,000 to $80,000.This fantastic, collaborative effort between Right
at Home and Elder Services insures two things – proceeds will replenish the
Elder Care Fund and that each request such as a ride to the doctor, food in the
refrigerator, heat in the winter or simply having a pair of broken eyeglasses
fixed can be met. Development Manager at
Elder Services states, Bonnie Sisson states, “Sometimes you get an incredibly
unexpected opportunity and you need to seize it. Our mission is to help older
folks and it just doesn’t get any better that better than helping those who
need it most – when they need it most!”
There are
still some of the Keurig machines available for purchase. They are being sold
for $50 with all proceeds benefitting the Elder Fund. The machines were being
sold for almost $100 at local retailers. Local residents can purchase a machine
through Right at Home by calling 978-744-5151.
