Selectman Goldy Gives Wife Tree Through Town Program
In honor of their wedding anniversary, Selectman Steve Goldy gave his wife Carolyn a tree adoption through the Town of Reading’s “Taking Root for the Future” public shade tree planting program. This program is spearheaded by the Town’s Climate Committee.
With the payment of $300, the donor gets a plaque on the “tree” at Town Hall, and a tree is planted on public property – either a shade tree along one of the public streets, or a tree on a school site or public park. Residents who are interested in participating may contact the Department of Public Works at 781-942-9077.
In the less than one year of the program, 8 trees have been adopted – 7 planted last fall and more to be planted in the spring. These trees are in addition to the trees already budgeted for in the Town DPW budget, and the “Taking Root for the Future” program is a wonderful way to supplement the Town’s efforts to continue to green up Reading.
