Best of Patch: Who Makes The Best Sandwiches in Reading?

Please vote for your favorite sandwich place by taking our poll and by clicking on the directory link and writing a short 1 or 2 sentence review.

Our inaugural Best of Patch contest kicks off this week with food on our minds.

Do you have a favorite sandwich place or sub shop in town?

Here are some of our favorite places, but if we're leaving one off of the list, please let us know in the comments and we'll add it:

And if your favorite place to grab a sandwich is in a neighboring town, vote here: North Reading; Wakefield; Stoneham; Lynnfield; Wilmington; Burlington; and Woburn

Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. Friday. Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

By far, DiCara's Deli, has the best sandwiches! Always soooo fresh - afterall, they slice the meat to order! Rolls are fresh, too. We love the roast beef, chicken parm and italian. So very yummy!

Hi Nancy, this is the owner of P&S convenient, Gary Buonarosa. A bad reputation? I have been in business since 1986 and have contributed thousands of dollars to town athletics and other programs. Not to mention, donating my valuable time to mentoring my stores employees who have further more gone on to become successful business owners of their own. Outside of the store, I am fully involved with Reading Recreational Sports as a coach of my daughters Micro-Soccer and Hockey teams. Nancy, my reputation is unfortunately, created by women like yourself. Women, who would rather sit behind a computer screen speculating that a business is bad based upon rumors than to visit the store itself. Therefore, I understand you are trying to voice your opinion the best way you know how, but you truly should base it on your experience rather than a “reputation”.

Gregory's has some of the worst sandwiches in town. The only good deal is the "kid's deal".

Gregory's has some of the worst sandwiches in Reading. The only thing they do well is the "Kid's deal" for when the youngsters have half a day.

The P and S opens there doors to throngs of kids every afternoon when school gets out. Whether you just got a small fry or a sub they let the kids sit in the store and eat. There are not a lot of establishments that let kids hang out and talk inside and out and you never hear of the police being called to dispurse a crowd. On top of that the subs are pretty good!!!My only gripe is it is cash only.

DiCara's Deli has the freshest/best ingredients in town. All Boars Head. Bread/rolls are hands above other establishments. I drive across town just to get the prosciutto & mozzarella sub. Everything is clean, clean, clean. Which is more than I can say for some other eateries in town. Balance of meats and toppings is just right.

DiCara's Deli has the best sandwiches in town...hands down! DiCara's uses the highest quality ingredients including Boar's Head meats and the freshest rolls around. Their salads are also incredible...I haven't found any better salad in town than their signature salad, the Rocket Salad. They also do a great job on deli platters for parties. DiCara's Deli is by far the cleanest and friendliest establishment in town. Love DiCara's!!

SammyJo's on Haven St near the old Atlantic market has amazing (fresh) wraps and panini's. I always thought of it as just a bakery, but check out their luncheon menu, great choices, great food!

Sammy Jo's is great and Melinda & Gigi behind the counter make you feel at home. In fact I'm eating "brunch" from there right now - the Bacon Bacon bagel sandwich. Too many favorites to mention, including soups and salads.

Reading House of Pizza is also wonderful and George is super friendly. I love the pizza, but also treat myself to a roast beef sandwich with the special sauce every once in awhile!

Both are EXTREMELY supportive of Creative Arts and other local groups.

depending on what I am in the mood for will determine my favorite, Last corner, by far best breakfast sandwiches, done just how you want them. If you can hit it just right I think Bagel world has the best bagel sandwiches, used to love to take the kids there, could take them and their friends without breaking the bank, unfortunatly the line is not worth the wait most of the time. looking for a sub i think that P&S has some really great ones, but I have had troubles in the past with them being out of stuff when i stop on the way home from work, could be just bad timing on my part though. Love the names of the sandwiches at old reading butcher, but I am an old fashioned girl and the "gourmet" thing does nothing for me when I want a simple sub or sandwich. Cant say I have been to some of the ones on the list, but after the comments read here I will have to make time to go to di cara's (course I didn't even know it was there until last week) Sammy Jo's I was not impressed with, but it was personal taste, not quality or service. With all this said keep in mind I am a simple girl and sundried tomatoes and honeymustard mayo and salad "greens" do NOTHING for me, give me ham and cheese with onions and pickles or a jr with mayo and cheese and I am a happy happy girl so if your tastes run to the "gourmet" side LOL don't listen to a word I say! :0)

Last Corner - is there some secret password you have to say to get good food here? The first and last time I went I got eggs on a soggy paper plate. I could have made better food at home. The staff were nice but i have no idea how this place is in business.

Honestly Emily I'm very surprised. I have been a loyal customer since the late 70's and have never walked away disappointed...maybe my standards are lower, but I love their no frills approach to serving delicious, reasonably priced breakfasts and lunches. I'll take it over Christophers anyday, had breakfast there on Tuesday and paid $10.06 plus $2 tip for three undercooked pancakes and a cup of coffee...outrageous.
