Better Late Than Never: Reading Sex Offender Behind Bars

Reading Patch has learned that convicted sex offender Glenn Gerade began his term in the House of Correction on Jan. 30.

Back in August, on a resident who was charged with four counts of possessing child pornography and one count of distributing it.

Glenn Gerade, of Reading, initially pleaded “not guilty” in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn, and was barred from using the internet or making contact with children under 18 years old.

Recently it was brought to our attention that we may have left our loyal readers hanging somewhat with regards to the outcome of this disturbing case, a situation that, we feel, merits immediate redress.

After his initial plea, Gerade eventually pleaded guilty to all charges on Jan. 13, and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in the Billerica House of Correction, to be followed by 10 years probation on and after the jail sentence, according to the office of District Attorney Gerry Leone. He will be required to register as a sex offender following his release.

Gerade, who was free on bail since his arraignment in August, surrendered himself for the execution of his sentence on Jan. 30.

The docket on the case, provided to Reading Patch by District Attorney Gerry Leone's office, said that Gerade had several hundred images and videos of child pornography on his home computers.

When speaking with police, the docket said, Gerade described his use of the material as "almost like an addiction."

Upon his release, if he opts to stay in Reading, he will become the fourth registered sex offender to take up residence in town.
