Wrap:

The Bulldogs losing streak reached three after the team lost in difficult fashion on Tuesday evening 3-2 to the Watertown Reds.

Watertown benefited from aggressive base running and a key Bulldog run thrown out at the plate to beat Reading for the first time this year.

After a scoreless pitchers' duel between Sean Boyle (Roger Williams) and Karl Alexander (Bates College), the Reds broke through in the bottom on the fourth inning for the game’s first run on an infield ground out with the bases loaded.

The Bulldogs came right back in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Brett Flutie hit a one hop double over the fence and then Darren Hartwell beat out a bunt single to third. With one out and no one on, Mike Russo belted home a run. Then, TJ Murphy hit a line drive double into the right center gap to score Hartwell.

On the play, Russo tried to score from first base but was thrown out from short right field on a good throw—though it appeared he got around the tag.

The Reds had single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull ahead for the win. The tying run came across on a double play opportunity that the Bulldogs could not execute, allowing Sam Sager to score all the way from second base, just beating the tag.

In the sixth, Dan Chiasson’s double to the 410' mark in centerfield allowed the Reds to score when the relay throw was mishandled coming in from the outfield.

Alexander finished out the night with a 1-2-3 final inning in a six strikeout, no-walk effort.
