Get into the spirit of our medieval-themed summer at the Reading Public Library with our Henry VIII-inspired Adult summer Reading Program, Despot Housewives. This is a self-service reading club for people who read anyway and would like to win a prize. The main floor of the library has been transformed into a medieval world for the program which runs from June 25 to August 17.
There is no registration for the program, and it’s easy to participate. Each time you complete a book or audiobook, fill out an author/title slip at the library and deposit it at the “The Tower” display. Submissions may also be made online, from the library’s website. Every submission gives the reader another chance to win a fabulous end-of-summer prize.
Several events will also be held at the library to promote this theme. A six-week screening of the BBC production, The Six Wives of Henry VIII starring Keith Michell, will be held on Monday evenings, beginning June 25 with a showing of the episode, Catherine of Aragon. Subsequent screenings will be held on Mondays, all at 7:00 p.m., through July 30 and will present Anne Boleyn (July 2); Jane Seymour (July 9); Anne of Cleves (July 16); Catherine Howard (July 23); and Catherine Parr (July 30). All showings are 90 minutes long.
In addition, an outdoor band concert, Fanfare, will take place at the library on Wednesday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. Have some fun with the Tudors this summer at the Reading Public Library.
