Now wait... First, "a caller" had to report that the fire truck was on fire? And then the DPW responded to put the fire out? And then they towed it back to the station so it could be ready to not go to the next fire? Is it April 1?

John, it's NOT April 1st, and don't believe everything you read in print. The crew on the ladder truck (not a caller) first reported overheating, then pulled over to investigate. When smoke and flames were spotted they requested two engines to respond, from the F.D, NOT the D.P.W. The crew of the ladder truck immediately went to work trying to douse the flames with extinguishers carried onboard. When the fire was out the apparatus was towed back to the station to remove tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment (jaws of life, generators, E.M.S. equipment, etc). The truck was THEN towed to the service facility.

"The Fire Department responded to put the fire out and the DPW mechanic reported to the scene." Does not sound weird to me that the fire dept. responded and the mechanic did too. I guess when I read I comprehend.

For the record, SMS, it's been re-worded since my original comment. And Mac3473 - that all makes complete sense. I was just amused by the original terse recap.
