Five Things: Facials, Trivia and a Storm That Makes This Winter's Look Tame
And a little bit of snow today. Don't think too much about it.
Today is Tuesday, Feb. 8. Here are five things you need to know:
Don’t think too much about the snow today. You may have already seen falling flakes today—and may continue to until 4 p.m., according to Weather Underground—but forecasters expect the precipitation to accumulate to three inches at the most. While I know that might have been a show-stopper during other winters, it’s only worth a shrug this winter.
Prove you can’t be stumped. Chili’s will host its weekly team trivia event tonight. Grab a few friends and pit your knowledge against that of other teams, all for the possibility of cash prizes. And maybe some baby-back ribs.
Be good to your skin. The Reading Senior Center will host an esthetician today who will perform spa-quality facials. A 15 minute session will cost you $5. A 10 minute session will cost you $10. Call ahead for an appointment.
The budget process isn’t over. While the school committee may have moved on to other matters (read more about that later today), Reading is still grinding its way through its fiscal 2012 budget process. The Board of Selectmen will again discuss the budget at tonight’s meeting.
Remember 1978. While this winter has clearly given us all plenty to shovel, on this day in 1978 you would have been digging out after one of the most legendary storms in New England’s history. Over the course of three days, the Blizzard of ’78 dropped more than four feet of snow on some parts of Massachusetts. At least we haven’t seen anything quite that bad this winter. And let's hope we don't.
