Today is Tuesday, May 31. Here are five things you need to know.

It will be a little cooler today. After a hot Memorial Day that must have had some of our state-level elected officials uncomfortable in their suits, today will be a bit cooler. Temperatures should top out in the mid 70s, according to Weather Underground, while skies will be partly cloudy and the winds will be light.

Photo bonanza. Freelance photographer Brad Giguere has been hard at work for us lately, bringing us from the Reading Memorial High School as well as from yesterday’s . Expect to see more from him in the near future.

If you’re interested in boating, the Friends of Reading Recreation would like you to know that you can obtain for either Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield or Spot Pond in Stoneham from the Reading Public Library.

Tick tock, it’s a big clock! On this day in 1859, London’s iconic Big Ben clock went into operation. The clock hangs atop the 320-foot-high St. Stephen’s Tower, and the name—Big Ben—originally only applied only to the bell tower. But a name so big couldn’t be kept so penned in.
