Five Things, Including FinCom and Conservation

With a (magazine) page from history.

Today is Wednesday, Sept. 14. Here are five things you need to know:

1) Summer persists. Even as we edge onto the ides of September, we’ll see temperatures today that exceed some that we saw in the heart of the summer. Highs are expected to reach the mid 80s, according to Weather Underground, with clear skies and plenty of sun.

2) We want your suggestions for good, cheap eats. Some of your neighbors have already for what restaurants we should list as the best inexpensive food in the area. Have they missed something that you think should included?

3) Feeling arty? The Reading Art Association will hold of local art tonight. Artists will include Fran Nola, Robert Cyr, Dee Birch, and Judy Hayworth.

4) Commission and committee meetings. The and the will meet tonight. The former will review the town’s capital plan and do planning for another financial forum scheduled for October 12. UPDATE: The earlier version of this article said that the Conservation Commission had not posted an agenda. The commission in fact, has posted an agenda. It includes discussion of the Sailor Tom's Way project.

5) Not quite the Gerber Baby. A seller on eBay has a 1906 magazine advertisement for a Boston baby food company for sale. Why is that interesting to you? Because the ad features the image of Raymond Bowers, a child hailing from Reading. We’re pretty sure Raymond’s not around anymore—he’d be 106 years old at the youngest—but we’d like to think that he’d be amused by being the today’s (glossy, magazine) page from history.
