Five Things to Know Today: July 18

Your guide to Reading and North Reading today.

 

Today is Wednesday, July 18. Here are five things you need to know today:

1. The weather. The temperature will reach 91 degrees in the afternoon and drop to 66 in the evening. There is a chance of scattered thunder showers.

2. Jim Rice Memorial Softball Tournament. Peabody firefighters are organizing yet another tribute to their fallen brother Jim Rice that will also benefit his family -- this time a softball tournament Aug. 18-19. The tournament is open to teams of firefighters, police and EMS personnel. Games will be played at Marrs Park and the O'Connor fields in Peabody. 3. Reading Board of Assessors. The Board of Assessors will meet at Reading Town Hall at 2 p.m. 

4. Hillview Commission. The Hillview Commission will meet at the Hillview Country Club at 7 p.m. Discussing management of the function hall and condition of the golf course are both items on the agenda.

5. Concerts. Both Reading and North Reading will hold concerts today. The Reading Concert will take place at Memorial Park at 3 p.m. The North Reading Concert Series will take place at Ipswich River Park at 5 p.m.
