Your guide to Reading and North Reading today.

Today is Wednesday, April 18. Here are five things you need to know today:

1. The weather. Expect more sunshine today. The temperature will reach 61 degrees in the afternoon and drop to 37 in the evening.

2. Volunteer. The Town of Reading is looking for volunteers to fill a number of positions. If you are interested, stop by the Town Clerk’s Office and fill out a form or bring in the application, which can be found on the town's website. For more information call 781-942-9043.

3. Voter registration deadline. The deadline to register to vote in North Reading's annual election is today. Register at the Town Clerk's office before 8 p.m.

4. North Reading Parks and Recreation Family Scavenger Hunt. Arrive at the Recreation Center at Ipswich River Park at 9:30 a.m. to register for the event, which starts at 10 a.m. Families will search for clues in Ipswich River Park and the first three to finish win family prize packs. All participants will receive a free slushie.

5. Fairy Tale Players. Stop by the Reading Public Library and join the Fairy Tale Players for Aesop's fables: The Lion and the Mouse, The Boy Who Cried Wolf and The Tortoise and the Hare. Sing along, take part in the performance and explore the set. The show is free and recommended for children ages eight and under.
