Today is Monday, March 12. Here are five things you need to know today:
1. Beautiful day. Expect cloudless skies and highs near 70 today. This will be the first of a string of seasonably warm weather expected this week.
2. Great work Lady Rockets! In case you missed it over the weekend, the Reading Memorial High School girls’ basketball team won the Division II North title with a hard-fought victory over defending champs Arlington Catholic on Saturday. The Lady Rockets will take on Scituate in the state semifinals on Tuesday at 6 a.m. at the TD Garden. Just like Saturday’s game, Patch will be there and readers will be able to follow the action on our live blog.
3. North Reading resident breaks hockey scoring record. Congrats to Jimmy Vesey who recently broke the Eastern Junior Hockey League single-season scoring record with 91 points. He also broke the single-season record for goals scored with 48 goals. Vesey skates with the South Shore Kings of the Eastern Junior Hockey League out of the Foxboro Sports Center. Patch featured Jimmy, the son of former Bruin Jim Vesey, in Feburary. Congrats Jimmy!
4. North Reading Middle School Spectrum is out. The staff of the NRMS Spectrum proudly announce that its March issue is out. You can check out their work here.
5. Lumina wins contest. Congratulations to Lumina, which won the Best of Patch Readers Choice contest for Best Hair Salon. We received more than 700 votes in our poll, as well as dozens of comments and reviews about the contestants.
