Christopher Heath, former assistant principal in Reading, has been named the next principal at Winthrop Elementary School.
He will start on Aug. 20, according to a letter announcing Heath's hire on Tuesday from Superintendent Michael Harvey.
“I believe that Chris’ experiences as the Principal of the Goodyear Elementary School in Woburn and as an Assistant Principal at the Joshua Eaton Elementary School in Reading have given him the practical experience in leading successful change that will allow him to be successful in leading the Winthrop Elementary School to new heights,” Harvey said in his letter.
A complete copy of the letter is attached to this story as a PDF. Harvey did not say how much Heath will be paid.
Heath was one of two finalists to fill the job after former Principal Carrie Vaich announced she was leaving after six years to become principal at Mast Way Elementary School in Lee, N.H., which is closer to her home.
The other finalist was Amy Pasquarello, the Integrated Media Specialist at Winthrop. Both candidates took part in a “meet and greet” earlier this month where Harvey solicited feedback before making the final decision last Friday. After Heath accepted the job he announced it on Tuesday.
