Get Out: Weekend Events In and Around Reading
Is someone else hosting Easter Sunday, leaving you with some free time this weekend? Check out some events in and around town to keep you busy.
With Easter just around the corner, you may be busy preparing a nice meal for family and friends. But, if you're lucky enough to have a relative hosting the holiday gathering, we've got some activities to keep you busy until it's finally dinnertime.
Where/When: Memorial Park, 64 Salem St, Friday, 3:00 pm (ages 2 - 3), 3:15 pm (ages 4 - 5), 3:30 pm (ages 6 - 8).
Why Go: Get in the Easter spirit and bring the little ones to a festive Easter egg hunt where they will search the park for mini eggs and other prizes. The kids also probably don't want to miss their chance to meet the Reading Recreation Bunny. You'll never hear the end of it!
Pricing: Free event for Reading Residents.
Where/When: VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital, 19 Main St, Wakefield, Saturday, 3:30 pm–4:30 pm.
Why Go: Saturday is your chance to be one of the world's best pet owners. Take your dog or cat to the animal hospital for the VCA's annual Rabies, Microchip, and Nail Trim Clinic. All proceeds will benefit the animals of PAWS. Rabies, which can often be fatal, is completely preventable with a simple vaccine. Keep your beloved pet safe and healthy, all at a reduced price where all the proceeds go to help other animals in need.
Pricing: Rabies Vaccine - $15, HomeAgain® Microchipping - $30, Nail Trims - $10, or all three for $50 (Spring special).
Where/When: Reading Town Hall, Parking Lot - Lowell and Sanborn Street. Saturday, 9 am - 2 pm.
Why Go: Most of us have all kinds of old electronics and appliances laying around that we don't know what to do with. Spark your Spring cleaning by recycling these old, unused products and benefit a good cause in the process. Not only are you helping the environment, but all the proceeds go to benefit The First Congregational Church of Reading.
Pricing: Cell phones, batteries, bikes - free. Monitors - $5. Small appliances/TVs - $10. TVs over 20"- $15.
Where/When: The Fat Cactus, 215 Broadway, Lynnfield. Weekly on Sundays, 10:30 am–3:00 pm.
Why Go: While you might have dinner plans for Easter Sunday, why not head to The Fat Cactus for brunch? Not only will you enjoy a nice meal, but you will also enjoy a musical performance put on by Kokomo Joe Fielding.
Pricing: Free entertainment, but it's safe to say you have to pay for your own food and drinks.
Where/When: Reading Public Library, Library Meeting Room, Friday, 9:30am–10:30am.
Why Go: Caregivers can bring babies and toddlers (ages birth to 24 months) to the library on Friday to play, make connections, and socialize. Book lists, books, and resources will also be on display.
