John Stempeck Appointed to RMLD Board
John Stempeck is the newest member of the RMLD Board.
John Stempeck was recently appointed to the Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) Board of Commissioners by the board members and Reading selectmen. Former member Mary Ellen O'Neil resigned back in May.
According to a recent press release, three candidates were interviewed by the rest of the board, which contains four members, and the selectmen. Selectman James Bonazoli was not present the night of the vote, only four selectmen voted. Stempeck received six votes, and five were required to appoint a candidate.
"I'm obviously very pleased and honored, especially given the other well qualified candidates," Stempeck told Patch.
He spoke highly of the other candidates and their level of "expertise."
The other two candidates were John Carpenter, a project manager and Town Meeting member and David Talbot, chief correspondent at Technology Review, an MIT magazine and website.
He went on to say that RMLD is doing great things including implementing automated readers so someone does not have to go around to read meters and installing the best line separators.
RMLD is "making the right kind of investments in the infrastructure and it's quite impressive," he said.
As a new member of the board he is going to "get up to speed" on how they do power purchasing and distribution; learn how to get messages about energy conservation out to all generations of the public; consider other things that RMLD can do, in addition to what they are already doing, to improve reliability and to find other additional ways to keep RMLD physically conservative, providing the lowest possible rates to customers without losing services.
Stempeck, a 37-year Reading resident, works as a management consultant. He received his MBA with Honors from Boston University, a BSEE from MIT and CMAA designation from Loyola University.
RMLD Board Chairman Phil Pacino said in a press release, “I am highly impressed with the credentials John brings to the RMLD Board. I look forward to working with him.”
