Arena is a longtime Reading resident and currently serves on the Finance Committee, as well as being a Town Meeting member.

“I'm a strong advocate for our public schools—which have served my family and my neighbors and friends so well,” said Arena in a press release. “I've also seen areas where Reading needs to improve. I've gotten involved to help make Reading better for all its citizens. Now with an opening on the Board of Selectmen, I thought it appropriate that I step up to serve.”

Arena is running against Karen Gately Herrick, a longtime Town Meeting member, for the seat on the Board of Selectmen that is set to be vacated by current Chairperson Camille Anthony.

The local election will be held in conjunction with the Massachusetts Republican Primary on March 6, per a recent decision by the board, and all precincts will vote at Hawkes Field House at Reading Memorial High School.
