Most Important/Favorite Moments of 2011

Patch wants to know: what was the most important or favorite moment of 2011?

With 2012 just days away, Reading Patch wants to know what our readers thought were the most pivotal, or simply, the most favorable, moments of last year.

2011 certainly had some big international and domestic stories. There was a massive earthquake in Chile. The ousting of Italian PM, Silvio Berlusconi. We saw terrorist leader, Osama-Bin-Laden finally uncovered and killed, along with the demise of corrupt Libyan Dictator, Muammar Gaddafi. There were, and continue to be, politically-fueled protests around the world due to continuing financial meltdowns. We also witnessed these struggles at home with the Occupy Movement surging this year. There was also the awful sex-scandal at Penn State and the biggest trial of the year had to either revolve around the "Fast and Furious" gun-scandals or the Casey Anthony acquittal.

On the lighter side of things, the Packers took the Superbowl, there was a big to-do over the Royal Wedding, Oprah wrapped up her show, Whitey Bulger was finally tracked down and caught, same-sex marriage was legalized in several more states including it's biggest, New York, "Modern Family" and "Mad Men" won best drama and best comedy respectively at the Emmy's and "The King's Speech" took best picture at the Oscars.

There were also some startling, and not-so-startling, deaths of major celebrities in 2011. Amy Winehouse, Jack LaLanne, Joe Frazier, Andy Rooney, Elizabeth Taylor and just recently, Kim Jong Il, all passed in 2011.

With all these historic events taking place, Reading Patch wants to know what our reader's deemed "most important" or your "favorite" moment of 2011?

Happy New Year!

Let me get this started by throwing my support behind the death of Bin Laden as the biggest story of the year ... Followed closely by the death of Steve Jobs, Whitey's capture and the Arab Spring movements. What do you think?

I'd have to say the biggest moment(s) of the year were Kim Kardashian's wedding/divorce... (just kidding)

the Arab Spring movement will most likely have the largest impact as it continues to develop throughout the region

and how could you leave out the Bruins winning their first Stanley Cup in 39 years?!

@Dan ... You're right, it would appear I've been quite remiss in this egregious oversight. The B's were absolutely one of the biggest stories of 2011 ... and, it would appear, 2012 as well (we hope!)
