North Reading Special Election Saturday
Vote for the school building project Saturday between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The project passed at Town Meeting Monday with two-thirds majority vote.
If the project passes Saturday, the total cost for a new middle/high school will be $107.7 million. The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) will reimburse 51.49 percent of eligible costs.
If passed, the new high school is projected to open in 2014, and the middle school in 2015. The cost would be bonded for 25 years. According to school officials, the tax rate will increase 10.75 percent. The average home value of $450,100 will see an increase of $700.
