NRPD Launches Anonymous Text-a-Tip Program
Residents can submit an anonymous text or online message.
The North Reading Police Department and the Community Impact Team launched an “Anonymous Text-a-Tip” and “Web Tip” program. The program aims to keep the community safe and drug free by allowing residents to communicate with the police department anonymously.
According to North Reading Police, the program is successful in other communities and reduces crime and drug related activities. Police are encouraging parents to discuss this program with their kids, and hope that the teens in town will be active participants in the new program.
“This program is one of many that the North Reading Police Department will provide to the citizens of North Reading in an effort to reduce crime and illicit drug use within our community," Chief Michael Murphy said. "Anonymous information provided to the police will be investigated and corroborated before any action is taken by the department. Information provided to the police department from its citizens is crucial in the effective and efficient delivery of police services. We need the public to be our eyes and ears.”
To send an anonymous tip, type NRPD, plus your tip, on your cell phone and text it to “847411” (tip411). An alias is generated, which allows the person to remain anonymous.
If you see a crime in progress or need to report an emergency, please call 911.
