Patch Picks: Great Local Hair Stylists
It turns out Reading Patch readers are passionate about their hair.
As it turns out, Reading Patch readers love their local hair stylists.
The article I posted Wednesday asking for your suggestions racked up more than 90 comments in less than 24 hours.
To my knowledge, that’s more comments than any single article ever posted on Reading Patch has ever attracted, ever.
Given the intense response, the best I can do for today’s Patch Picks is hit some of the highlights.

Danielle McGarry, a publicist in New York City said she travels from New York to get her hair done at Em-Belle-ish by Tara Konaxis.
“Tara has been my colorists and hair stylists for years, and I have gone to NYC stylists and paid top NYC dollar and still I make the four hour hike back to Reading to have Tara do my hair. She is amazing and should be working in New York or Newbury Street. The people of Reading and the surrounding areas are lucky to have someone like her available to them.”
Our request also triggered another comment from another-long distance Em-Belle-Ish customer. A user calling herself Mal Pond Wally had this to say.
“Stephanie Spinale at EMBELLISH is awesome. Reminds me of Edward Scissorhands.......... snip, snip, snip, snip, snippety snip and before you know it, you look amazing… I travel from Texas to have her perform her magic!”
Erin Calvo-Bacci, owner of The Choclate Truffle and member of Reading Patch’s Moms Council said: “Cassie at [Salon] Fringe is my go-to-girl, and I love her, and would be lost without her.”
“I've worked closely with Fringe and Lumina on town events such as the Chamber's Women Celebrating and events I've had at The Chocolate Truffle,” Calvo-Bacci said. “Many customers have come into The Chocolate Truffle and said ‘Fringe’ or ‘Lumina’ told us to come here. Gary at Fringe also cleared my work computer of a nasty virus!”

I think the lack of information in your article is awful. The posts from the patch.com visitors probably took more effort. What does the chocolate truffle getting rid of computer virus have to do with a hair stylist being good? Very disappointed in the article and lack of coverage after you get over 135 responses from visitors.
Lumina and Salon Utopia were both slighted along with stylists from these salons. If you took the time to read all of the postings, then you would have seen who received the most support. At the least you could've listed the people that receieved the most votes (Stephanie, Amy, Lisa).

I agree it was a terrible article. You would think he would've mentioned more about the people that were the leading vote getters and the original question.

Peter - I'm sorry you feel that way. As both a local business owner, a mom and a lifetime resident of Reading, I feel strongly about being involved in the community and supporting local businesses - even in what should be a light-hearted forum such as this one was. It is interesting to me what we all take so seriously and what we choose to make light of. Who knew that a question about who cuts ones hair could solicit such a response as this particular article did
