Police Log: Police Notch Arrests For Cocaine, Opiate Possession, Driving While Intoxicated
A look at notable events in the Reading Police log for Nov. 1-3.
Monday, Nov. 1
9:00 a.m. Police responded to a two-vehicle collision between a Wakefield man and a Reading man in a parking lot on Main Street. Neither driver was injured.
12:54 p.m. A Stoneham woman reported to Reading police that someone stole a purse from her vehicle on Saturday while it was parked on Grant Street in Reading.
2:19 p.m. Police received a report of a minor motor vehicle accident between a Wakefield man and a Wakefield woman on Walkers Brook Drive.
2:27 p.m. Police notified Market Basket of a shopping cart near the intersection of Pearl Street and Salem Street which belonged to the store.
3:43 p.m. The Reading Fire Department handled a small brush fire near the Fantasia Building at 274 Main Street.
4:13 p.m. Police cited Thomas Meier, 49, of Woburn for violating a restraining order held against him by a Reading woman. The woman told police that Meier had been walking a dog in front of her house and periodically calling her on the phone.
4:32 p.m. Reading police assisted a Dorchester woman who had locked herself out of her car while the engine was running and her child was inside. She was parked in the Market Basket parking lot on General Way.
4:58 p.m. A Washington Street woman reported that someone locked her child's bike.
8:05 p.m. Following a traffic stop, an officer cited three Reading youths for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.
Tuesday, Nov. 2
1:07 a.m. Police arrested Marcus Scarlet, 18, of Arlington and changed him with possession of alcohol, possession of cocaine and failure to observe road markings. The department also charged two male youths, one 17 years old, the other 16, for possession of alcohol and possession of cocaine.
5:08 a.m. A Derry, N.H. man reported a kicked-in barn door on Johnson Woods Drive.
7:30 a.m. Police responded to a minor motor vehicle collision between a Reading man and a Reading woman near the intersection of Main Street and Hillside Road. Neither driver was injured.
8:31 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious motor vehicle parked at the end of Arnold Avenue. Police found nothing suspicious.
10:05 a.m. Police received a report of a suspicious male in a hoodie loitering around a Hopkins Street bridge. Officers spoke to the youth, who said he was fine and heading back to Reading.
10:35 a.m. Police received a report of a loose dog running around the rotary.
4:19 p.m. Following a motor vehicle stop, police arrested Jonathan Jette, 25, of Newburyport and Dillon Dwyer, 21, of Reading. Police charged Dwyer with possession of an opiate and driving with a suspended license. The department arrested Jette on an outstanding warrant from Lowell for charges of receiving stolen property. Dwyer was released on $240 bail.
5:08 p.m. Police received notice of a restraining order between a Reading woman and a Billerica man.
6:37 p.m. Reading Police asked the Reading Municipal Light Department to activated an overhead light at the intersection of Oakland Road and Birch Meadow Drive.
9:58 p.m. Police received a report of two people possibly having sex in a motor vehicle near a dumpster on Newcrossing Drive. An officer spoke to the occupants, but found no problem at the time.
Wednesday, Nov. 3
1:32 a.m. An officer spoke to a Reading man found walking near the intersection of Franklin Street and Main Street.
12:04 p.m. Police responded to a two vehicle accident between a Reading man and a Burlington woman near the intersection of Main Street and Hopkins Street.
3:03 p.m. An Archstone Circle woman reported receiving threatening text messages.
3:26 p.m. Police received a report of a dog that ran and got stuck under a deck on Hillcrest Road. The dog was freed, then ran away.
3:40 p.m. Police received a report of a large tan dog running loose on Oak Street.
3:40 p.m. Police received a report of an unwelcome Reading resident at Foreign Car of Reading.
4:02 p.m. As a result of information received while at court, Reading police charged Justin Wing, 24, of Woburn, for violation of a restraining order, intimidation of a witness and threatening to commit a crime. The Reading woman with the restraining order against Wing reported at Woburn District Court that Wing had called and threatened her.
4:42 p.m. Police cited Andrew Riley, 28, of Reading for driving an uninsured car with a revoked registration.
5:41 p.m. A Condor Road resident reported that he paid $230 for oil and believes he only received oil worth $180.
6:45 p.m. A Frank Tanner Drive resident reported an ongoing problem with a noisy neighbor.
7:44 p.m. Police notified the Department of Public Works of a television set that had been dumped on the side of the road on Pinevale Avenue.
7:45 p.m. A caller reported that he found a black and white husky wandering near the intersection of Walkers Brook Drive and Lakeview avenue. The caller held the dog until its owners reported it missing.
7:49 p.m. Police cited John Gonzalo, 58, of 8 Elm Street for driving while under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, operating to endanger and failure to yield while turning. Another driver reported that he followed Gonzalo home after he witnessed Gonzalo collide with a concrete pillar.
