Police Log: Who Scatters Mail Across the Road?

Notable entries from the Friday, June 3 police log.

2:50 a.m. An officer noticed an open window at Coolidge Middle School. The officer found the screen intact and concluded that the window had been left open accidentally.

2:56 a.m. A Virginia Road resident reported a loud pickup truck roaming the area. An officer checked the area, but could not locate the truck.

4:34 a.m. An officer responded to a report of a dumpster being emptied on Middlesex Avenue. The officer informed the dump truck driver that emptying a dumpster at that hour is prohibited by a town bylaw.

7:00 a.m. A Parsons Lane resident reported that he found several mailboxes on Franklin Street opened and their mail scattered on the ground. He told police that he collected the mail and returned it to where it belonged. An officer later checked the area and found the same had happened to two mailboxes on Pearl Street. Another officer informed the Post Office of the incident.

8:33 a.m. Several officers responded to a hold-up alarm at the Shell station at 110 Main Street. An employee reported that the alarm had been set off accidentally.

10:01 a.m. A Dean Road resident reported that someone had scattered mail from an Eastway mailbox.

10:03 a.m. An officer responded to Morse Financial Services at 57 High Street were a Stoneham driver had collided with the building, causing damage to both the building and a fence. The driver was not injured.

11:17 a.m. A Dividence Road resident reported that someone fired a BB at one of her windows. An officer noticed a small indentation in the window.

1:47 p.m. A caller reported that he saw a one driver strike another in the Bank of America parking lot on Main Street. An officer noted no apparent damage to the struck vehicle.

2:14 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a loose dog on South Street. The dog departed before the officer arrived.

2:34 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a suspicious man selling electronics out of his vehicle and sent the man away.

3:57 p.m. An officer responded to a report of youths creating a nuisance at the McDonalds on Main Street.

3:57 p.m. An officer issued a citation to Lijing Chen, 28, of Quincy charging the driver with leaving the scene of a car accident involving property damage. A Melrose resident had earlier reported that Chen struck her car while it was parked at Market Basket on General Way. The Melrose driver’s car was towed from the scene.

4:37 p.m. A Hancock Street resident reported that someone spray painted “Snoopy” on his fence at some time overnight.

6:45 p.m. Reading police forwarded a report of a large pothole near the Mobil at 178 Main Street to the Massachusetts Highway Department.

6:51 p.m. A caller reported what she believed to be a home invasion in progress at a Gazebo Circle residence. The caller reported that she was on the phone with her sister, who lives at Gazebo Circle, when she heard her sister yell “Get out!” The line then went dead. Officer responded to the scene and found that the resident had been yelling at a neighbor’s children, who the resident did not want playing in her driveway. The neighbor reported that the resident had used profanity when yelling at the youths. Officers spoke to all of those involved and explained that any remaining conflict would be a civil matter.

7:59 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a man urinating on the side of the road near the intersection of Azalea Circle and Carnation Circle. The officer could not locate the man.

9:03 p.m. Following a traffic stop near the Stop and Shop on Walkers Brook Drive, an officer arrested Nancy Nipper, 49, of Reading and charged her with driving with a suspended license. She was later released on $540 bail.

9:41 p.m. A Harrison Street youth reported that someone stole his blue Trek mountain bike while it was parked outside of the Walgreens on Harnden Street.
