Slain Reading Man’s Mom: Christopher Fischer ‘A Beautiful Boy’
Christopher Fischer was killed Monday during a daytime carjacking in Lawrence.
Angela Fischer, mother of Christopher Fischer, a Reading man slain this week by a gunshot to the chest in broad daylight in Lawrence, described her son as a “beautiful boy.”
“He was my beautiful boy even though he died at 33,” she said. “He was like a born salesman…He had so many talents—just god-given talents.”
Lawrence police have confirmed it was Fischer who died on Union Street, Monday, after a Honda Accord with tinted windows screeched to a halt. According to police, a man jumped out of the passenger-side door, ran around the car and pulled Fischer out of the driver seat before taking over the wheel and speeding off.
As the driver left, he ran over and broke Fischer’s leg, police report, but Fischer had already been shot in the chest.
Jose Maldonado, a tow truck driver at the scene, told The Eagle Tribune that he tried to stop the culprit and aid Fischer. After he tried to block the Accord, he held a hat over Fischer’s face to shield it from the sun, he told The Tribune.
"He said 'I got shot, I got shot, I got shot,' and then he lost his voice," Maldonado said to The Tribune. "I tried to tell him 'yo breathe slow. Don't say anything.’”
Lawrence police said they weren’t ruling out that the shooting could be drug-related, but Fischer’s mother said she was having a hard time understanding Monday’s events.
“I don’t know what happened,” she said. “Someone shot him and killed him and that’s that. He’s gone now."
