RPD Officers Honored for Assisting in Boston After Marathon

Reading Police officers Mike Fitzgerald, Mike Lee and Matt Edson were deployed by the NEMLEC RRT (Rapid Response Team) last month to assist with security in Boston after the marathon bombings.

Reading Police Officers Mike Fitzgerald, Mike Lee and Matt Edson were honored at a Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday night for assisting in Boston after the marathon bombings. Lee was unable to make it, but both Fitzgerald and Edson accepted their certificates with pride.

The three Reading officers were deployed by the NEMLEC RRT (Rapid Response Team) after the marathon bombings to assist with security in Boston. They were also present in Watertown after the shoot out that killed Officer Sean Collier and bomber Tamerlan Tsarnev.

Selectmen Chairman James Bonazoli presented Officers Mike Fitzgerald and Matt Edson with certificates and thanked them for their service.

"You know something could go wrong and could go wrong very quickly and I know your family knows that, and so we want to thank your family and we want to thank you guys and we want to thank everybody who participated in that," he said.

Police Chief James Cormier was also present at the meeting and said that the officers are "highly trained" and they train on a regular basis.
