Reading, MA - With great energy from two successful years, the 2011 Reading Fall Street Faire Committee is officially launched! Looking to build on the excitement from the past, the Committee wants to invite all community residents to participate in this year’s event planning and performance. The Faire will be held on Sunday September 11, 2011 from Noon until 5 PM. The day will begin with a 5k-road race then a September 11 commemorative event at Reading Memorial High School at 10 AM.

The Coordinating Committee is composed of town residents Sheila Clarke, Steve Goldy, Rosemary Murphy, Tina Ohlson and Ben Tafoya. The range of opportunities for volunteers is very broad. The Committee is looking for residents interested in helping with managing the website and social networking, logistics, recruitment of vendors and sponsors, entertainment and day of the event workers. You should have a Type A personality that enjoys meeting deadlines, interfacing with the town and public, and having a good time! If this fits your description the Committee wants you!

When the past Reading Fall Street Faire (RFSF) Planning Committee met to share their Lessons Learned from the Street Faire they realized that the biggest success factors were:

  1. The weather which was Mother Nature’s “Tip of the Hat” to the Street Faire and preceded one of the stormiest days of the end of summer,
  2. Unencumbered day on the Reading calendar – Sunday afternoon is the one time in the busy lives of our town residents when they can take a breath and enjoy each other and the community,
  3. Planning – this Committee had put a lot of time and energy into creating a successful event that would have something for everyone

The Fall Street Faire Committee conducted a survey of the vendors of the Faire and asked, “Will you participate again in this Faire?” and the overwhelming response was ‘YES!’ The response from the community at large was incredible and there were a number of people during the Faire that expressed an interest in helping make this event part of the fabric of our community. Please visit the Street Faire website for contact information or email readingfallstreetfaire@verizon.net or call Ben at 781-944-3178. A Committee member will be back in touch shortly.
