What Should Go Here?
What would you like to see go into the old Calareso's space?
Calareso's Farm Stand recently moved a block away from their old location on Main Street. They now have more space inside and out. The former location, next to Harrows, is still vacant.
What do you think should go in the vacant building?
A restaurant? Retail shop? Bakery?
As part of our new Visions for Vacancies column, we want to know what you would like to see go into that location. Let us know in the comments section.

I'd like to see Harrow's expand and go back to being a full-serve restaurant.

A bakery would be ideal for the size and location. Reading has been itching for a family-owned bakery ever since we lost the one next to the Cafe Capri. Unfortunately, free-standing bakeries are becoming a thing of the past.

It seems the right configuration & location for a non-chain restaurant of some sort (I picture a breakfast place) but not sure if Harrows wants the competition. The guy who is trying to develop the burned out tux place into a fancy sandwich kind of place; seems that the Calareso's locale would be much better & would not have toxic waste issues.

I was thinking of Perfecto's cafe, which according to this patch article was supposed to be under construction by now in former tux place:

According to their website, Pefecto's is a small regional chain:

And it seems that unless the franchise owner bought the site, he could consider the Calareso's site, too.

Perfecto's cafe wouldn't be a bad idea. We need a less-out-of-the-stratosphere alternative to Sam's Bistro, and it would solve the issue of the owner not wanting to spend $40,000 to remove the fuel storage tanks at 285 Main Street (the old Mr. Tux's eyesore).

I would guess they will tear down the old calreso's building and put up more affordable housing.

The ideal place for Ocean State Job Lot would be the old Stop and Shop in North Reading. However, a smaller version with less parking would fit in at Calareso's old location.

I don't know how much more traffic flow that stretch of Route 28 can take. It is turning into a crazy area with cars driving in and out of gas stations, Dunkin Donuts etc.. I am all for commerce, but I think we need to be careful.

Let's not bring back Robert's, that is what was in that location before Calareso's and it was a dump. They moved to North Reading. I remember my brother bought a dog there as a kid and paid for it by the pound!

JLC, It is Main St. There is going to be traffic no matter what goes in there.
