Where Should A Crosswalk Be Added in Reading or North Reading?

Contribute to a lively conversation by posting a comment below.

Last month, Reading-North Reading Patch asked you where in North Reading drivers ignore stop signs most. Of several responses, Pine Ridge Road at North Street seemed to be a popular answer.

Now, we would like to ask readers: Where should a crosswalk be added in Reading or North Reading?

What do you think? Let us know by posting a comment in the comments section below.

I disagree Reading already has lots of Crosswalks, I think that its time for North Reading Residents to get a safe spot to cross the street.

It's not the lack of crosswalks that's a problem in NR. It's the lack of sidewalks from which to enter and exit the crosswalks.

There are sidewalks on Main St but only one crosswalk at Main and Park and the next one is not until Main and Winter over one and a half miles away.

Mass Highway controls where the crosswalks go on Main St, Not the town.

I know but we still need them and the NR Selectmen and Town Administrator seem to be ignoring this fact

I'm a commuter and walk to the Reading train and need to cross over Main Street. No one stops for me in the morning and it's worse at night. There is one crosswalk just before Bagel World however there is a utility pole immediately before which obviously interferes with drivers' views. I think a crosswalk should be added at the Statbucks especially considering the Perfectos Cafe slated to open across from it. And it would be nice if the crosswalks had a few deflectors on them.

I would like a sidewalk on the corner of Park St. and Washington St. that you could walk on to get to the crosswalk. It's a bad intersection and being handicap you have to go into the street to access the crosswalk. They put in a nice one when they did 62 but then removed it and put in a rock garden and enlarged the driveway to the gas station. I would like to know why they did that.

I agree with Readingite , nobody stops for people in the cross walks. I could get hit every time i go walking.

Yet, if you go to Wakefield center, cars stop at virtually every crosswalk, consistently, if there is a pedestrian there. There are cones with signs about this. But, I do note that Main St in Reading also is a so-called "state highway", whereas Main St. in Wakefield is merely that..Main st.

I would rather have a decent place to ride my bike on Rt. 28 when I'm going out for errands. Cyclists risk their lives every time they share a shoulder-less lane with car and truck traffic. Too much of Rt. 28 has not only no sidewalk, but no shoulder either.

Noneya - I think a cross walk should be near the Reading Athletic Club near the Market Basket, because its very dangerous right now to cross there. there is a stop sign, which is routinely ignored.
