Your Picks: Reading's Best Five Destinations for Cheap Eats

If we missed any, add them in the comments.

This week, we asked you to tell us about your favorite choices for good and inexpensive foods in and around Reading. And you came through.

Here, in no particular order, are the top five Reading destinations for cheap eats according to those who responded to our article.

1) Green Tomato

Two readers—Melissa Onorato DeVeau and Sara—suggested this takeout eatery stationed near the Reading Train Depot. Sara particularly said their wraps and “delicious lentil soup” are worth a visit.

2) The Last Corner

Also stationed near the Depot, this breakfast and lunch place earned a call-out from Jessica Shontz-Stackpole. With hamburgers available for just a couple of dollars, this might be the most inexpensive place in town that isn’t a national chain.

3) Swissbakexpress

Rounding out our Train Depot triple-play Emily M suggested the baked goods peddled by the Swiss bakers. Their breads and rolls, she said, are free of “processed junk.”

4) Cafe Capri

On South Main Street, Emily M and Melissa Onorato DeVeau suggest Cafe Capri. DeVeau particularly said Capri’s house dressing is worth a taste—which I suppose means she’s suggesting you order a salad.

5) Gregory’s

Not far away, the Gregory’s the part-time ice cream stand and full-time sub shop, earned a vote from Emily M. On Monday and Tuesday, she said, they have specials that cost less than $10.

much as I have to say I LOVE Capri dressing and their steak tips are awesome, I would not include them in a list of "cheap eats" as they are on the expensive end of Readings fare, I can get the same size meal at several other places in town for literally half the price.
