Rep. Dwyer Responds to Governor's Tax Proposal
While we can all agree that our transportation system is crumbling and educational excellence is key to our future, I am very concerned with the Governor’s asking hard working taxpayers to contribute more in an income tax increase.
I agree with the Governor that there is never a good time to raise taxes. However, I know that the people I represent expect their government to do everything in their power to root out fraud, abuse, and programs that are not working to ensure that their tax dollars are being spent efficiently and responsibly.
Without an effort to reassure the taxpayers that reforms are being made to root out these causal problems in government, it’s unfair and out-of-touch to be asking for more revenue to fund two ambitious initiatives.
I will be more inclined to work with my colleagues to make reforms, end failing programs, and to find cost cutting measures in order to finance projects that are important to our transportation system, including the Route 93/95 Interchange in Woburn and Reading or the many other transportation projects my district is seeking funding for.
I look forward to working towards common sense solutions that have the best interests of the taxpayers of the 30th Middlesex District in mind.

With a few more states currently considering the ELIMINATION of Income Taxes as a way to stimulate job growth, and with NH just to the north with NO INCOME or SALES Tax, it is hard to imagine that the governor's proposal will be positive for the state. The reduction in the sales tax does not offset the increase in the income tax, as the combination of the taxes still is planned to raise $1.9 billion in new revenue. . Most of the projects that were proposed for funding are not compelling in terms of need. I applaud your stance against the adverse impact on taxpayers. Thank you for your leadership.

Jim, thank you for being a voice of reason by suggesting closley examining the failed programs, and looking at reforms to exisiting ones. That is the logical process. Its too easy to ask people for more money to throw at the issues. The hard work is what you are suggesting. I am proud to have you represent us at the State House. Please keep up the great work!!

Considering Jim's record of having voted for the sales tax increase
(see http://votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/75498/james-dwyer#.UVsgIleyJsg), I am confident that he will somehow find a way to justify his support for any tax increase the Mass. Democratic leadership wants, including the hideous proposed gas tax that would increase each year.
