Senator Tarr’s Statement on IG Welfare Report Revealing the Loss of Millions of Taxpayer Dollars
Boston- Senate Minority Leader BruceTarr (R-Gloucester) released the following statement today regarding a report by Inspector General Glenn Cunha revealing the continued loss of public dollars and ongoing abuse within the state’s welfare system, while taxpayers are being asked to pay more taxes, fees, tolls, and other expenses to finance the expansion of transportation and education initiatives proposed by the Governor:
“The report released yesterday by Inspector General Cunha proves that there is still substantial work to be done to eliminate and prevent fraud, waste and abuse in our state’s welfare system. It’s unacceptable that taxpayers would be asked to pay more while millions are being wasted. Equally unacceptable is the diversion of precious dollars intended to support those in need from people who deserve them to those who do not.
We need to roll up our sleeves and get to work in confronting these issues now, and our caucus is committed to action on them as soon as possible.”

Too bad there is no more shame in stealing from your neighbors this way. I don't know anyone who is against helping the 'truly needy' in our society, but the entitlement mentality that has taken hold, especially in the last 4 years, is very disheartening. Some people seem to think that scamming a program is only 'getting their share' from the government, but then there is less left over for the people who really need the help, and it is really fraud/theft. We need strict punishment for those illegally taking from the system, and much tougher enforcement. Stories like we've seen more and more lately make people want to give less and less to government.
We should go back to local organizations and churches, etc. distributed charitable aid to the needy. It is always much better policed at the local level than in state or federal hands.

Until we CUT OFF benefits to all the 47,000 missing folks and then let them reapply if eligible, there can be no solution. Those in real need will get to the proper offices and get reinstated. We need to stop the dancing around this problem and be BOLD. No more lip service. Senator Tarr, will you be BOLD ?? I am tired of reading about the issues and not seeing concrete steps being taken to correct the abuses. You can self police the system by cutting off the 47000 until the re-establish their accounts.
