Vacant School Council Position in North Reading

I am in the process of filling a vacant seat on the school council for the J. Turner Hood School in North Reading. A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composedof the principal, parents, teachers, community members. Each school in the Commonwealth is required to establish a school council pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.

In Massachusetts, School Councils assist principals by reviewing the school building budget and developing the school improvement plan. Councils may also take on other responsibilities, including policymaking. Councils' school improvement plans are submitted to the local school committee for review and approval.

I am in need of a community representative on the J. Turner Hood School Council. If you are interested in this role please contact me via e-mail at gmckay@north-reading.k12.ma.us

In order to be eligible to serve, the community representative must reside in the attendance area of the J. Turner Hood School and can not have a child currently enrolled in the school. The community representative should be willing to solicit the views of other community members and share those opinions with the council.
