About this column:
About this column: Each week, Patch will feature an adoptable pet needing a home from PAWS, an all-volunteer animal welfare organization based in Wakefield, MA. Founded by Esther Nowell in 1982, PAWS responds to animal-related needs in many communities north of Boston. The PAWS service areas includes Wakefield, Lynnfield, Reading, North Reading, Saugus, Stoneham, Woburn, Winchester, and Malden. PAWS' mission is to promote and protect the rights and well-being of all domestic animals and wildlife, and foster a greater understanding of animal welfare and animal rights through education. PAWS receives no local, state or federal funding - the budget is completely funded by membership dues, adoption services, annual fundraising efforts, and kind donations from friends and members.I hope you don’t watch too much television from the 1960’s. I say that because I may be called Dennis, but I am very much not a menace. I am mellow and sensible and I never make mischief. OK, I may look a little gruff. But that is all a put-on to cover up the fact that I am actually a love-bug and a sweetie-pie. How sweet am I? Well, I will cuddle right next to you and purr you to sleep. I love to be petted and have my ears rubbed. Belly rubs? I adore those. I just want to be near you. That does not mean I am all laziness and lying around. I do like to bat around a ball or two…
Wait, why are you walking by my window? I want to look at you. You seem nice. I know I am nice. Don’t you think we would make a great pair? I do. Why not come inside and meet me? I am definitely looking for a new home. This cage at PetSmart is clean and safe, but that is about all I can say for it. I am ready for a home of my own and you sure look like a good adopter. You have a dog, you say? No problem on my part. Another cat? Well, that depends. We can discuss it. So my name is Gypsy Angel and I am a petite, medium haired, girl with a beautiful black coat and a fleck of white …
This Yorkie-Chihuahua Mix Wants to Adopt You Hi! My name is Penelope Tofs, but you can call me Penny. Actually, you can call me anything you like if we can be friends. OK, now that we are friends, I have to tell you a secret. I am looking to adopt a person or family. Please don’t tell anyone because I don’t want my potential adoptees to get scared off. Sometimes people don’t know they are being adopted by the rescue pet and not the other way around. Oh my goodness, people can be silly. People describe me as a big personality in a small package and they ooh and ahh over my cuteness and …
So you know my name. But do you know how smart I am? I decided life on the street was not for me… too cold, too hungry, too lonely. So I found my way to this house and hung around acting friendly until, unable to resist my charms, the resident PAWS volunteer saw me and took me inside. It was February 12, Lincoln’s birthday, which I have now dubbed my “new-birth day.” It’s also the day they started calling me Lincoln. Ah, I do like PAWS. Life here is great and I have no desire to go outside ever again. Why would I? I have everything I need right here in my foster home. What do I have …
The Days are Warming Up, But Lowell Will Still Keep You Snuggly Warm. Oooh, I like the looks of you. I do, I do. My name is Lowell and I am a young, sweet, and very unique looking cat who wants a new home and family. And I think you might just be the one for me. Well, to be honest, I have never met a person I did not like. I am just a very, very, friendly guy. And, a really nice kitty, too. Maybe you are more picky than I am? So, let me tell you about myself and then you can decide whether or not we are meant for each other. (Of course, I am certain you will discover that we are a …
Brummble-Rumble-Brummmmbr... That is me, Maddy, the purr machine. Can you hear my engine revving up? Purring is one thing I do very well because I am a very content cat. And why wouldn’t I be? I have had a great life with a wonderful person who I loved very much. Unfortunately, my human died after we were together for ten years. She got me as a kitten and always took good care of me. As you can imagine, I miss her very, very, much. But, she is gone, and I have to accept that fact no matter how sad it makes me. Now, I am glad to be in a PAWS foster home. Some cats my age are not so lucky. …
Bella D is my name and affection is my game. At three years old, I am just getting started. I am a girl who knows what she wants, and what I want is to sit on your lap while you pet me. If you ignore me, I will let you know with my very loud meow. I don’t talk a lot. But when I do, I make myself understood. I may sound pushy, but I am actually a very mellow feline. Nothing bothers me and I love everyone and everything. OK, I did not appreciate being in a cage during adoption hours, but then I did not mind the hyperactive dog that came over to see me. I even thought he might be fun! As…
My name is Gentille, which is French for nice, kind, lovely. I am all that and more. I am a petite (seven pounds), stunning girl. My white coat has some very special tiger markings and I have the most amazing tail known to feline kind: it is striped and beautiful. I know for a fact there is not a more beautiful or striking cat in the entire world. Despite my beauty, I am not looking for a life filled with high-society parties. Not at all. I am seeking a quiet household with a warm lap or two (or three) to lounge on. Men, women, it doesn't matter as long as your laps are warm and inviting …
Hi, I am Vanna. Like that other Vanna of game show fame, I am lithe and elegant. Unlike her, I don’t have an endless variety of lovely gowns. But, as you will discover, I’m no less stunning in my own original, satiny grey tortie ensemble. Yes, I am a definite show stopper. Besides being beautiful, I am affectionate, calm and mellow. You can pick me up and carry me around and I won’t complain. I also love when you pet or brush me. Or, I could find a great spot near you to sit in the sun and doze. I am easy to please. Beauty, talent, and poise, I have it all in the best combination. …
Hello, my name is Penguin and I'm a lively, six-month-old kitten. My markings may remind my foster of a real penguin, but I much prefer a warm, snuggly place with you to an ice floe in Antarctica or a beach in the Galapagos. Actually, I was brought in from the cold outdoors when I was only 12 weeks old, so I do have outdoor experience and I can tell you now that I'm done with that. Life indoors on the warm and cozy side of the window pane is the life for me. Here on the inside, I find that toys are the most fun. I can’t resist anything on a string, any catnip mouse, and that red dot that …
Everyone loves me. I can tell that because they all say how cute and sweet I am. Some call me a doll, which frankly, is not so appropriate since I am a dog and a boy one at that. But they are right about me being special. Who wouldn’t love me? I am small in stature (the size of a very large cat) and big in heart. I just love meeting everyone because I adore people. I am always ready to play, to follow you around, to be your friend and to do doggie things with you. Did I say that I love people? I do. You may be wondering how a nice dog, like me, ended up homeless. My story is sad, so …
If I look sad in my photo, it is because I really want to have a home of my own again. I am a young and healthy guy who loves people. I loved my former people right up until they brought home a Great Dane puppy. Yeah, puppies are cute. But do you know how big that cute thing got? I can’t even describe it. I’m sure he was a good guy, but I was way too intimidated to find out. Having to deal with my fear of the dog made my life quite stressful and so we all decided it would be best if I found a new home. Enough of the sad stuff because I am not letting that define my life. Let me tell …
Mr. O’Malley Wants to Be Yours on Valentine’s Day and Forever Boy, am I ever lucky to be the featured cat this week because Valentine’s Day is coming up and I am going to be your sweetheart. As those NECCO hearts say: “Sweet Talk” “Love You” “Be Mine” “4-ever”. Aren’t I charming? I am a handsome young boy with short, glossy black hair and a cute bobtail (which makes me and extra special kitty). True to the bobtail breed, I am playful and very people-oriented. I am not above demanding your attention with a meow or a tug at your toes. My name is Mr. O’Malley. But, please don’t confuse me …
My name is Lightning and I am a stunning, young cat who is more than ready to get some me time. I don’t know why they call me Lightning, because if I am fast, it is only because I have been dashing after kittens. Babies, babies, babies, oh my. Mine were lovely, but I am so done with being a mother. Now I want someone to mother me. What do I mean by mothering me? Well, I love to be patted. I love to be scratched behind my ears and stroked from my neck all the way down to my tail. I am so sleek and smooth your hand will glide right over me like, well, like lightning. Maybe we can even …
My name is Winter, but I am not the least bit like that season. I am all spring, sweet, happy and loving, the kind of kitty who will sit on your lap and purr and purr. The kind of girl who likes to be scratched, rubbed, and petted in all those good cat spots (ears, chin, neck, etc.). In this very cold end of January, I am a tiger who will bring a lot of warmth into your home. Did I say tiger? Not a real one silly! I am actually a torbie because of my range of colors (orange, brown, grey, cream) mixed with tiger stripes. Did I mention I am young? Maybe eight months old. Some would say …
Striker is my name, but sweetness is my game. That is right, I am a beautiful, adorable, handsome, sweet, funny, and loads of fun. Oh, I am also a very modest guy, so I won’t toot my own horn. I will just let you look at my pictures. I can be goofy, or serious, or very chill as you can see. That is me, all me. OK, I am not a small guy. But hey, there is lots of me to love. I like my kibble and I like it often. I will sit, patiently shifting my weight from right to left and squinting my eyes at you until you get the message and give me a treat. I want your attention, true. But, I …
Hi everyone. My name is Fudgecicle, but you can call me Fudge, for short. As you can see, I am not a good speller. But I think I got my name because I am all brown like the frozen treat called a fudgesicle. Or maybe it was because I am extremely sweet, if a bit fuzzy. I am also quite unique with my medium-length, fine hair with no undercoat. You will be amazed by how soft and silky I am. Besides my beauty (and let’s not discount that), I am a very easy kitty to have around. I can be initially cautious, and will most likely hide in a new environment or around new people. But you can …
I am sleek, sweet, and looking for my forever home. My name is Brenda and I am almost all black except for two white toes and a few white hairs at my chest and neck. I think I am stunning. My foster thinks I am sweet as can be. I believe we are both right! Besides having two twinkly white toes, I also have a personality that is just as sparkly. I am very playful and love to snuggle. I came to PAWS with three young kittens and I used to run around and play with them. Now that they are gone, I will play with any other cat who is interested in having a romp. I get along with just about …
Happy New Year! I certainly hope you will have something good to celebrate as we enter 2013. I, on the other hand, am not in the mood because I won’t have anyone to be with to watch the ball drop or to kiss me at the stroke of midnight. But, you go ahead and have a good time. I don’t mind. I will just stay here at PetSmart and wait for someone to fall in love with me and take me home. It’s not a big deal. I am not a party guy anyway. Not really. Well, ok, maybe a little. I’ll just have to postpone my celebration until I have a real home with people who love me and toys to play with and a …
Meowee. Did you hear me? I want to talk to you! My name is Mumtaz and I am trying to have a conversation. I am a Siamese, so I really do want to talk. We do that. But we are also very balanced cats. We are not shrill, we are not crazy, and we like people. I love people. I had the same owner for 13 years until she got too old to care for me. I miss her. But I am trying to be realistic. I can’t be with her, so I need to find a new home. Did you hear me? I am talking to you. Meoooow, Mrumph. Let me tell you a bit more about me. I am a purebred, Applehead, Siamese cat. I am like …
