Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

About this column:

About this column: Each week, Patch will feature an adoptable pet needing a home from PAWS, an all-volunteer animal welfare organization based in Wakefield, MA. Founded by Esther Nowell in 1982, PAWS responds to animal-related needs in many communities north of Boston. The PAWS service areas includes Wakefield, Lynnfield, Reading, North Reading, Saugus, Stoneham, Woburn, Winchester, and Malden. PAWS' mission is to promote and protect the rights and well-being of all domestic animals and wildlife, and foster a greater understanding of animal welfare and animal rights through education. PAWS receives no local, state or federal funding - the budget is completely funded by membership dues, adoption services, annual fundraising efforts, and kind donations from friends and members.
They call me Gallo, and I love people. I always greet my foster dad with a meow and a purr. Right now, I am living in a garage since there are too many cats-in-need and not enough space in the foster homes. But, I am dreaming of the day when I will have my own humans who might even let me sleep with them on their bed every night. I am a lover, not a leaver, that's for sure.  My best features? It would be hard to pick, but I do have gorgeous green eyes. And then there are my amazing whiskers and symmetrical black markings on a clean, white coat. At only a year old, I am young and playful, yet …
Good things come to those that wait and I am a good thing. While being outwardly beautiful, I also possess a heart as pure as my snowy white fur. I am a combination of cautious optimism and open affection. It just depends on the situation and my ability to get comfortable. A pinch of patience topped off with some time is all I need to settle in with you.   Despite some adversity in my life, I definitely believe in love forever after. I hope to find that with you. To be treated like a princess in my own castle would be just about the best thing for me. I enjoy spending time together, lap-…
Cricket is a handsome black and white tuxedo cat with a striking face and very long legs and tail. Besides enjoying the company of other feline friends, Cricket is a people watcher. He enjoys a cozy spot for naps, a good window for bird watching, and a tasty can of cat food.  By the way, in case you forget that it is time for breakfast or dinner, he’ll be sure to remind you by staring at you with his gorgeous green eyes, then circling the feeding area. And, if that doesn’t get your attention, his impatient meow will! Unless he is trying to get your attention, Cricket is a quiet gentleman who …
Trusty is a beautiful young tabby tiger with lots of white markings on a coat he takes great joy in grooming. What is extra special about this boy, however, is his personality. He is a lot like a dog, without all the messiness and slobbering. What is dog like about him is that he is a very faithful friend to his foster mother, following her devotedly around the house and paying attention to her moods.  When she is tired, he settles down at her side and when she is happy, he meows with joy. He arrived as a stray, but quickly learned the ways of a house cat, proving he must have begun life as …
I am a lover, not a fighter. I am a tiger, but I am not gruff. What I am is a big softie. I really like people and all the nice things they do for cats. I like being petted. Wow, that feels so good. And, I absolutely adore being fed. What can I say? I enjoy those tasty tidbits and some extra treats are also great.  Now, I am not one to rehash the past, but in case you are wondering, I used to have a life that included outdoor living, which, in my mind, is so overrated. I much prefer the warmth and creature comforts of a loving home. Let’s see ... food bowl filled versus searching for my …
Under the elegant grey and white fur of this handsome feline is a sweet pussycat with a heart of gold. Yes, I could be that guy you have been seeking, the one who will hang out with you when you are sick and still think you are beautiful, who will find little ways to show my affection (head butts and lap kneading rank high on my list), and who will listen to your every word. If you want to hang out and watch sports, I am ready to do that too. I am a gentle attention seeker and avid attention giver. What could be better than that?  As most felines, I am a sun worshipper. Give me a sunny day on…
Killiane: A Sweet One-Year-Old Waiting For You Warm-hearted, sweet, feline gal believes you can learn more from listening than from speaking, which makes me quite a good companion. You will be able to tell me how your day went without me interrupting. Rest assured, there will be no midnight yowls coming from me. I may be sweet and behaved, but you can be sure since I am a cat, I do have some diva in me. And why not? As you can see in my photos, I am a beautiful buff yellow tabby cat with an elegant white bib and pink nose. What the photographer did not capture was my love of being brushed and…
My name is Aster and I am a fluffy, black and white tuxedo cat. Just a teenager myself (barely 9 months old), I have already raised four kittens. Those of you with children know how much work that is! My four are really cute: two tuxedos, a dark calico, and a tabby.  Before I find myself a new home, I want to be sure that my babies are adopted. So, you don’t mind if I brag about them, do you?  Argo and Artemis are my two tuxedoed explorers.  Sometimes I call them “Double Trouble” because they love to wrestle and tumble with each other.  And they go nuts for fuzzy toy mice. I am so proud to …
A handsome lion-faced feline is on the market.  Hurry and find me as I am a great catch. Without being arrogant, I do have what you are looking for. I am an even-tempered, well-mannered (no hisses from me), mellow dude who enjoys petting, rubs and all the fun things humans do to express their love. Once we get to know each other, watch out for my purr. I just love your attention!  True to my lion-like nature, my life started with an adventure: I was born not breathing, but I have grown into a healthy and well-adjusted middle-aged guy. The only small remnant of my rough birth is a uniquely …
My name is Jenny and I’m the kind of girl who stays in on the weekends... okay, and weekdays too. I am not a party animal but more of the mellow, romantic type. Of course, curiosity still has a hold on me and I can be found exploring places in your home that you probably did not know existed. Personable, likeable and mostly downright loveable, I am not into drama, and the only games I claim a fondness for are cat games. I love to have fun, silliness is welcome, and adventures are encouraged. Speaking of silliness, it's something I often engage in with my daughter, Tina. Did I mention I am a …
As you can see from my picture, motherhood suits me just fine. But honestly, I think I am ready to get on with my own life. After all, I was a young mom.  At barely one year old, I think I deserve some me time. In addition to my elegant whiskers and beautiful dilute tortie coat, I have purrsonality plus! I love exploring and really enjoy having my head scratched.  I am looking forward to joining you on the sofa or at your desk and snuggling with you, the way my kitten curls up with me. Speaking of my kitten, Pablo, I think he is adorable with his grey and white markings and nose splotches. He…
Protection of Animals in Wakefield Society, Inc. (PAWS) fosters and adopts out hundreds of cats annually with the help of our volunteer network.  Summer is traditionally a busy time, with pregnant moms, newborn kittens, and current pet owners needing to re-home their pets. Since we are a foster network, without a physical shelter, the number of pets we can help is limited by the number of foster homes we have available at any given time.  This year, our cat intake requests are even greater than usual.  As a result, PAWS is seeking new foster volunteers to help care for local moms with litters…
Sweet and petite, bright and curious, I am Noelle, a seal point Siamese beauty with an amazing, sleek, slinky body and killer blue eyes.  Despite the fact that I am “middle-aged,” I love to play with string toys and enjoy cozy hiding places.  Yet, I will come running to greet you when you come home.  True to my Siamese heritage, I am also an excellent conversationalist.  But, as much as I love to talk, I can also be a good listener.  And, if you want to lie down with me and cuddle, I will shine my baby blues on you and purr up a storm.  Purring is definitely one of my specialties. Although I …
Some cats just have it and, quite modestly, that includes me!  A two-year-old with swirly stripes and a silky, soft coat, I am a natural beauty.  I think my coat just seems to say “touch me,” and that sure would be fine with me—once I get to know you, that is. I like to stretch out so you can run your hands down my long, beautiful body.  OK, maybe I am a little vain.  But, who can blame me? Although I am not much of a talker, I would enjoy it if you would spend time talking to me.  Eventually, I may even answer you back with a meow or two, but mostly, you will find me to be quiet, sweet and …
Greyham is a one-year-old male tiger whose dove-grey coat, charcoal stripes, and white highlights really show off his brilliant green eyes.  Greyham adores are ocean fish and tuna pate cat food.  One reason he is such a great catch is because he is the ultimate cuddle-bug.  Indeed, whenever you try to play with him, he finds ways to turn it into a snuggle—rolling over onto his back, kneading the air with his perfectly white paws, and turning up his motor until you just have to stop playing and give him a good cuddle.   He also enjoys a good chin scratch—his, not yours!   To win his love, you …
Mystique is a one-year-old beauty whose thick white fur with blue-gray tiger patches is quite striking. She is also a low-maintenance girl with an easy-going personality. Mystique appreciates a place she can call her own, a good meal, and a little human affection. She is hoping to find a patient, loving home for keeps.  Her favorite time of day is mealtime!  She especially enjoys a dollop of canned food to top off her kibble, along with some personal attention..  You will find her sitting tall at mealtime while you prepare her food and she will head butt your hand while you try to feed her. …
I am a wonderfully mature, plus-sized, feline gal who is seasoned and wise, with a touch of adventure thrown in.  I have a playful nature that presents itself well when toys come into my batting range or catnip finds itself anywhere near me.  Not averse to rolling in catnip or happily (but gracefully) flopping over for you to rub my belly, you will find me a sweet companion with a calming energy.  One of my best features is my stunning green eyes.  They do not show up well in my photos, but if you watch my video, you will see I can hold my own in two-way or even one-way conversations.  I am …
Now there are tiger cats and then there are tiger cats.  As you can see in my picture, I am the real thing.  I have great stripes.  I also have pretty wonderful spots, which they say means I may have some exotic in me.  I don’t know about that, but I can tell you I am a real loyal guy. I promise to stick forever by your side if you decide we are a match and bring me home.  Right now, I share my foster mom with other cats.  But I really do like it best when I have her attention all to myself. My favorite spot would be one that is close to your lap and your heart! Oh yes indeed, I do I love …
I am a compact powerhouse full of discovery and exploration:  Detective Marley at your service.    I know you are probably thinking how does a cat become a sleuth when she sleeps most of the day and is better at leaving prints then spotting them, but rest assured that I will make sure your house is in perfect working order.  No nook or cranny will go un-scrutinized.  I will test beds to make sure they are soft, sit in laps to test their warmth and play with all the toys in the house to test their cat-worthiness.  If you are working on the computer, you may just find me pressing the keys to …
Crusher and Picard, named for the famous Star Trek Next Generation pair, are at maximum warp speed looking for a forever home in our solar system. Crusher, with her sweet calico face, likes to go boldly where no one has gone before.  No, she doesn’t climb the curtains, but her antics will definitely amuse you and capture your heart. She is a big fan of cat toys and will carry her favorites around the house. She also loves to greet people at the door, even if she does not know them. Her brother, Picard, is an irresistible yellow tabby who also loves his toys. His favorites are furry little …
