RCS Presents "Season of Joy"
RCS Celebrates Season of Joy!
December 1 & 2, 2012
Reading Community Singers celebrates the Holidays with a concert of choral music at 7:30 on Saturday evening, December 1 and again at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon, December 2. Both concerts will be held at the Old South United Methodist Church, 6 Salem Street (corner of Rte 28 and Rte 129) in Reading. Please join us in this traditional start to our 93rd holiday season. There may even be a visit from a Special Visitor, so bring your cameras!
Musical selections include a medley of traditional carols arranged by Vaughn Williams as well as new arrangements of exciting music for Christmas and Hanukkah that will certainly get you in the holiday spirit! Audience members are once again invited to join us in our holiday sing-along and in singing the Halleluia Chorus. Season of Joy is conducted by Beth Mosier and performed by the 60+ member Reading Community Singers, accompanied by Joe Beninati.
Adding to our celebration is Divas Daughters. This talented trio promotes and fulfills the mission of the Diva Day Foundation, a 501(c) 3 organization based out of Cambridge that showcases artists in benefit of women's advocacy while addressing issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. While raising funds and awareness for local shelters and violence prevention initiatives, "The Daughters" provide folk and bluegrass music at community events. Some of these include farmers markets, garden parties, clothesline projects, candlelight vigils, open studios and art exhibits. The Diva Day Foundation produces recitals, cabaret nights and operas each year and while these help raise money, Diva's Daughters get in the trenches of the community and make a real impact on the lives of women and girls. Some of the Daughter's community partners include WomenArts, Violence Transformed, Simmons College and the Cambridge Community Center. The trio is thrilled to add RCS to this list of talented and like-minded artistic partners in the area and request your support.
The festivities begin at 7:30pm on Saturday evening and 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon. After each performance, there will be a dessert reception and an opportunity for you to take pictures with our “Special Visitor”. Tickets are $18.00 ($12.00 for seniors and students) and are available from any RCS member, through our website at www.readingcommunitysingers.org or at the door. Old South is handicapped accessible. Please join us in celebrating our 93rd Holiday season!
RCS is a multi-generation community chorus with over 60 members from Reading, Wakefield, Lynnfield, Stoneham, Woburn, Wilmington, Burlington and Melrose area. As a 501(c)3 organization, a portion of our ticket sales go to the annual RCS Scholarship for a local post-secondary student wanting to pursue a career in music.
