Several Rocket Teams Host Morning Games on Columbus Day

Here are five things to start your Monday in Reading.

1. Columbus Day: There are no public meetings scheduled for Monday, which is Columbus Day. Do you own a business in town? Let us know if you'll be open or closed in the comments section below.

2. Rockets in Action: Several Reading High School teams hit the field on Monday to kick off the week. The girls soccer team plays at 10 a.m. in Belmont, the boys soccer team hosts Belmont at 10 a.m. and the field hockey team plays a home game beginning at 10 a.m.

3. Sunny Monday: Though some patchy fog is possible on Monday morning, skies will be mostly sunny with temperatures reaching about 65 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

4. Coat Drive: There's a coat drive kicking off this week in town. Find out you can help by visiting the Patch event page.

5. Marching Band Competition: Reading Memorial High School will host the NESBA Marching Band Show on Saturday, Oct. 19, on its home turf from 5-10 p.m. The Rockets will perform between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Admission to the event is $10 for adults and $8 for students.
