Austin Prep Academic Decathlon team is going to states
Austin Preparatory School’s Academic Decathlon Team placed second out of 15 teams at the small school division Academic Decathlon recently. The team’s excellent performance automatically qualifies the group for the state finals in March.
Members earned a total of 19 individual medals across six of the seven categories. The team’s strongest area was science (genetics), where it earned five of the nine available medals.
Junior John Smolak of North Andover earned gold medals in language & literature, economics, and science and art, along with a silver medal in music and a bronze medal in history.

Junior Daniel Theriault of Stoneham earned five medals in the scholastic competition level - gold in economics, silver in science and music, bronze in language & literature and art.

Junior Drew Ciccarelli of Saugus (honors level): Silver in music
Sophomore Meghan Bodette of Andover (scholastic level): Silver in art, bronze in science
Senior Andrew Baker of Wilmington (scholastic level): Silver in art
Sophomore Teresa Leahy of Stoneham (varsity level): Bronze in science and music
Sophomore Krystle Boyajian of Winthrop (varsity level): Silver in science and art
Senior Michael Gannon of North Reading and Senior Lauren LaMonica of Peabody performed admirably against difficult competition at the honors level. Junior Nicholas Sorabella of Stoneham received the Coach’s Medal as the top-scoring alternate. Other alternates were Junior Y. Jennifer Cha of Wilmington and Junior Austin Nichols of Dracut.
