Austin Prep student attends Youth Leadership Conference

Austin Preparatory School junior Ian Perkins of Wilmington attended the Youth Leadership Conference recently at Norwich University in Vermont.

The two-day program gathered 75 students from across the country. It was hosted by the university and the Military Order of World Wars, an organization for retired military officers. Ian took part in workshops about leadership, effective communication, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, free enterprise, cyber security, ethics and what it means to be a “citizen soldier.” Participants divided into teams and took on challenges which helped them develop leadership strategies, self-confidence and teamwork skills.

In order to attend, students had to submit a 500 word essay on “the Bill of Rights and My Responsibilities” and be in high academic standing.
