Local businesses offer special discounts to veterans
Three North Reading business owners are celebrating Veterans Day in a rather unique fashion.
Through their “Veterans are Special” campaign, Carmen Johnson, Michelle Orescovich and Susan Keefe are offering extended discounts to past and present members of the military.

“We wanted to do something different, something special, to show our appreciation for veterans and current members of the armed forces,” said Johnson, owner/therapist at Carmen Johnson Muscular Therapy. “These people have made tremendous sacrifices to preserve our way of life. It’s the least we can do.”
The discounts began on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and extend through the end of the year. Johnson, a licensed muscular therapist, is offering a $20 discount on a one-hour massage. Orescovich, who operates Amore Salon, a full-service beauty salon, is providing a $10 savings on men’s and women’s haircuts.

Keefe, a North Reading resident and the principal at Susan’s Homeopathy, offers natural, holistic healing services for a variety of ailments. Her discount is $50 off an initial consultation.
All three businesses are located at 246 Main St. in North Reading. Services are provided by appointment only (contact information below).
“We are trying to help our military personnel save some money and also create awareness that this is a group of people who deserve our support,” said Orescovich, who lives in Reading. “We’re hoping that others can pitch in, too, in their own way.”
Johnson and Keefe are well aware that military life involves physical and emotional stresses ranging from mild to severe. Their services provide effective options to addressing these ailments. In a different way, an appointment at Orescovich’s salon can also be a healing experience. “When you look better, you feel better,” she noted.
“Veterans and active military personnel are special,” said Keefe. “Many have endured difficult situations that the average person will never face. We’re just doing our part to try and help.”
