Update: RMHS Robotics 2014 Team Qualifies for the New England District Championship at Boston University

After competing in two New England district events, the RMHS robotics team “The Robockets”, qualified this weekend for the New England Championship Event at Boston University April 10 – 12.  Back in mid-March the RMHS Robockets competed in their first 2014 event at the Chace Athletic Center at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The Robockets successfully teamed up with two other teams, Air Strike, from Newport, RI, and The Nutrons, from Boston, Mass to come away with top honors.  Later in March the RMHS Robockets competed int heir second event at Matthews Arena at Northeastern University in Boston, MA where they teamed up with two other teams, Schrodinger’s Cat, from Boston, MA, and Crimson Tide from Everett, MA during the elimination rounds.

In this second year of participation in FRC/FIRST Robotics, the students look forward to accompanying their robot to the New England District Championship event April 10 - 12.   Admission to the FRC/FIRST competitions is free of charge, including the upcoming April 10 - 12 event at the Agganis Arena at Boston University.

AERIAL ASSIST  is played by two competing Alliances of three robots each on a flat 25’ x 54’ foot field, straddled by a truss suspended just over five feet above the floor. The objective is to score as many balls in goals as possible during a two-minute and 30-second match. The more Alliances score their ball in their goals, and the more they work together to do it, the more points their Alliance receives.  To be successful each alliance team of robots need to have the combined skills of throwing, catching and passing a 2 foot yoga ball.  The match begins with a short Autonomous Period in which robots operate independently of driver inputs.   For the remainder of the match, drivers control robots and try to maximize their alliance score by scoring as many goals as possible, working cooperatively, passing the ball, and playing defensively as well.
