Boston Magazine Ranks Reading Schools in Greater Boston's Top 50

Reading Public Schools made its way into the Top 50 of Boston Magazine's list of the top schools in Greater Boston. The school came in at No. 50, ahead of several nearby towns.

"I think for the investment our community makes, we get a tremendous output," Superintendent of Schools John Doherty told Patch. "We always look at trying to find different ways to improve. Right now our biggest project is the implementation of new curriculum frameworks. We’re really focusing on that the next few years."

Film Starring Cameron Diaz Likely to Shoot Scenes in Reading

Hollywood is likely coming to Reading as the school district is finalizing a contract with a movie production company that will film several scenes for an upcoming Cameron Diaz movie at Parker Middle School.

Pair of New Coaches Set to Take Over Rocket Teams

There will be two new Reading High School coaches during the 2013-14 sports season.

Jim Debenedictis takes over as girls basketball head coach while David Blanchard hits the diamond with the Rockets this year during the baseball season. Both coaches are also faculty members within the school, so they expect the transition to be an easy one.

Reading Police on Alert After National Spike in Use of Drug 'Molly'

Reading Police are on the lookout for a drug making national headlines recently, with multiple reported overdoes caused by the ecstasy-like drug 'Molly.'

“The Reading Police Department Detectives Division has been actively working on cases related to the substance to intervene and reduce the supply of the substance,” a press release on the subject said. “Reading Coalition Against Substance Abuse has focused on education and prevention.”

Reading Fall Street Faire Has 'Something for Everyone'

It's that time of year again.

The Reading Fall Street Faire is slated for Sunday from 12-5 p.m. with activities, entertainment, food and vendors expected to draw as many as 10,000 people to town.
