Exercise Creativity and Imagination this Summer!

Openings are still available for those looking to exercise and expand their creativity and imagination this summer! Creative Arts is exploding with new programming and opportunities for kids as young as 3 years old all the way to adults and seniors wanting to keep young at heart.

For those 3-6 years old, the options include morning “Mini Masters” camps focusing on a different theme each week to explore various mediums with New Hampshire Artist Dayna Spinner, or the NEW “Mini Musician” camps in the afternoon of select weeks with Boston Percussionist Jennie Dorris.

Boston Artist Nedret Andre is back by popular demand to lead the 6-12 year olds in “Art Adventures” camps. Some exciting new camp themes include “Art Games & Inventions” and a large scale sculpture camp called “Transforming the Ordinary.”

And of course the ever sought after musical camp program is back again in our North Reading location! Theatre Director Kelly Walsh of North Andover will be leading the big musical, “Alice in Wonderland” (ages 8-16), the mini musical, “Jungle Book” (ages 6-13), and a hysterical comedy for the older kids (ages 10-16). A musical theatre workshop week has also been added in our Reading location under the direction of Theatre Instructor Corey Philips of Reading and Vocalist Andrea Loretz-Frey of Everett.

Some very special NEW workshops have also been added to the afternoon program, 3:30-5:30pm, for ages 6-12. These specialized workshops can be combined with camps to round out the day or taken by themselves. The workshops, as described below, include “Sing Play & Rock!,” “Drum Circle,” “Vocal Ensemble,” and “Creative Writing & Poetry.”

New York Guitarist Billy Janiszewski will help students learn and grow as young musicians in “Sing, Play, and Rock!” In addition to a variety of fun and educational musical activities, students will also listen to and discuss daily examples of rock music, including repertoire by The Beatles and Bob Marley.

Boston Percussionist Jennie Dorris will explore the power of drum circle rhythms with budding drummers in the “Drum Circle” Workshop. Students will not only have fun, but also learn how drumming is a great form of creativity and communication.

Long-time Vocal Instructor at Creative Arts, Andrea Loretz-Frey, will lead a “Vocal Ensemble Workshop” for ages 6-12 and for teen ages 13+. Students will have a blast singing together while learning the basics necessary for greater musicianship.

In addition to being a great percussionist, Jennie Dorris is also a professional writer and will lead “Creative Writing & Poetry.” This workshop will allow students to unleash their creativity through fun, fast writing prompts that get you “un-stuck” and ready to write stories and poetry all week!

To round off the summer offerings, Creative Arts also has a weekly Drawing Studio for ages 10-16 with Artist Jenny Walker of Salem MA, a Plein Air Painting Workshop for pre-teens, teens & adults with Painter Dennis Hart of Methuen, a one-day Figure Workshop with Artist Dennis Hart, and an intergenerational (ages 8-adults) Digital Photography Composition workshop with Artist Jenny Walker. And of course private music lessons for all ages and abilities on almost all instruments on a flexible schedule!
