‘Camp to Castle Consignment’ Shop to Open on South Main Street

The Camp to Castle Consignment shop will open around Sept. 1, according to store owner Loren Hayden, at 122 Main St.

The store will consign and sell antiques, home furnishing, fine art, collectibles and jewelry, according to the posters in the windows and Hayden. No clothing. Hayden has been selling antiques for 20 years, she said, since her children were young. She’s been a collector even longer. She's worked in publishing and printing in California, she told Patch.

Inside her newly whitewashed space, several oriental rugs cover sections of the floor once filled with neatly stacked crates of fresh potatoes, onions, lettuce and spinach. Wing chairs sit in one's and two’s. Several larger pieces of furniture, including a desk, bookcase and curving wrought-iron shelf unit, stand along the walls.

Hayden plans to consign and sell items ranging from modern and contemporary to vintage.

She looked for space within a 50-mile radius of Sudbury, her home, she said. She didn’t want a typical “box” of space. Paper blocks the windows and natural light while Hayden finishes preparing the store for the opening.

Camp to Castle will be open seven days a week, the owner said, tentatively from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, probably a little later on Thursdays. She will be open on Sundays.

The store is not accepting items for consignment yet. Hayden said she'll begin to accept items the day she opens. She prefers that potential consigners make an appointment in advance. Sale proceeds will be split 50-50, she said, between consigners and the store. After 30 days, merchandise prices will be marked down 25 percent. Items have a 60-day life in the store, Hayden said, to keep the selection fresh.
