Chamber of Commerce Runs Window Display Contest

Cast your vote and help your favorite charity.

The Reading North Reading Chamber of Commerce submitted the following release. It has been lightly edited.

The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce and Reading Co-operative Bank have partnered with local businesses in a holiday display contest to benefit local charities.

The contest, which is open to all Chamber members, will began on Thanksgiving and will run through Christmas Eve.

Business members are decorating their windows and collecting dollars to compete against each other for bragging rights and a matching donation to their favorite charity from Reading Co-operative Bank, which generously agreed to match the winning businesses’ collection up to a maximum of $500.

The contest is being held in both Reading and North Reading, but businesses are competing against each other in their own town. Reading Co-operative Bank is matching donations to two charities, one in each community!

“The Reading- North Reading Chamber has been working hard to promote its Buy Local initiative; this is another example, a fun and festive one that encourages interest in our local businesses to the benefit of our local economy," said Julie Thurlow, President and CEO of Reading Co-operative Bank

The businesses are asking customers to visit them and cast their votes for their favorite display for $1. The business which collects the most votes wins for their charity. There will be a winner in Reading and North Reading.

“We are so grateful to have Reading Co-operative Bank as a partner in this goodwill effort, they have always come through for our business members by supporting our community and charitable efforts” said Executive Director Irene Collins.

Watch the Chamber’s web site www.ReadingNReadingChamber.org  for a list of all participating businesses so you can plan a day or night with your family viewing the displays and voting for your favorite. Hopefully your vote will make a difference and your favorite charity will be the winner!

I love this festive way to encourage people to walk around The Town of Reading and North Reading and check in with their local businesses. The Chocolate Truffle has partnered with Creative Arts of Reading and the J.W. Killam Elementary School. Thank you to the following Killam families and Creative Art students: the Faulkner family, the Feltus family, the Scozarri family and my family the Baccis. You all did a wonderful job under the tutelage of Creative Arts instructor Jenny.
