Five Things, Including Christmas Trees

And a heads up on Shop the Block.

Today is Wednesday, Nov. 30. Here are five things you need to know.

1) This unseasonal weather could stick around for a while. Temperatures today are expected to peak in the mid 50s. That part isn’t so surprising; with temperatures in the mid 60s yesterday, we can’t be shocked that they’ve stayed up. However, Weather Underground predicts that temperatures could stay in the 50s as late Monday. That would put us five days into December. Also, watch the rain. It’s likely to sprits in the morning.

2) We’re looking for your input on Christmas trees. Our Patch Picks this week is looking for . Additionally, our poll this week pits fans of real trees against those who prefer fake trees. ?

3) Shop the block is coming. The local shopping event will kick of at 5 p.m. tomorrow in Reading Center. Stores along Main and Haven will participate, sometimes bringing refreshments and live music. You can tell who’s participating by looking for the red bow on stores’ doors.

4) Your last day with me. It has been a fun run, but it ends for me tomorrow, when I take over as editor of Charlestown Patch. This time tomorrow, Andrew Jeromski will be your editor for the foreseeable future.

5) It’s hard to say what might have happened if they didn’t. On this day in 1981, representatives of the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. opened talks to reduce their cache of intermediate range nuclear weapons. The talks lasted for more than two weeks and ended inconclusively. The sides didn’t reach an agreement on intermediate-range missiles until 1987.
