Health Inspections: Olde Reading Butcher Shoppe and Pizza World

In most cases, the inspections are part of routine checks, unless otherwise noted.

Olde Reading Butcher Shoppe

During a routine health inspection at the end of August, inspectors found items that required correction. Less than one week later the inspector returned and verified that each item below was fixed.

A hand wash sink was found to be obstructed and missing paper towels. Inspectors told the business owner to clear the area of the sink and provide paper towels at all times. A second hand wash sink had food debris inside. It was cleaned and the business was told the sink was only to be used for hand washing.

The Inspector found a cutting board in the meat room was stained and sliced. It needed to be replaced or resurfaced.

One meat freezer needed to be maintained to feature a lower temperature, while another had a build up of food debris and required a thorough cleaning. Two other freezers required new thermometers and a one of them also needed a cleaning due to debris.

Outside, the dumpster was in the open position and needed to be closed when not in use.

Pizza World

In August, an inspection found items that were corrected soon after.

A single door freezer had a large accumulation of ice and was also leaking. Ice an be a source of accumulation. Inside a freezer, raw gyro was stored above eggplant. This can lead to cross-contamination, so the restaurant was advised to order the items to avoid this.

A plastic fork was being used to dispense deli toppings. This was discontinued and a commercial grade utensil was used. A floor fan was also being used in the prep area, which can cause contamination. It was removed.

Inspectors also found two other freezers and coolers with improperly stored items such as chicken stored above cheese and eggs above pasta. No contamination occurred, but these items were rearranged.

The final note in the health inspection was that wrist jewelry was worn during food preparation, but the jewelry was removed.
