Medford Welcomes Elements Massage With Ribbon Cutting

Mayor Mike McGlynn and other city officials welcomed downtown Medford's newest business, Elements Massage, on Tuesday morning.

In mid-October, downtown Medford got a little bit more relaxing with the opening of Elements Massage.

Tuesday, Dec. 11 marked the ribbon cutting ceremony that brought Mayor Mike McGlynn, state Rep. Paul Donato, City Councillor Richard Caraviello and others from the Chamber of Commerce to welcome owner and operator Isabelle Wiryo and Elements to the city.

"Our [Massachusetts] unemployment rate is lower than the nationwide average and Medford specifically is doing well and the downtown area is very important to us specifically," McGlynn said, commenting on the significance of the new establishment.

The 40 High St. location for Elements is the 19th studio the chain operates in Massachusetts, having just opened its 21st studio last week in Shewsbury.

"By first quarter 2013 we will have 26 studios open," said Area Director for Elements Stephen Stabile, detailing the success Elements has had in the Bay State. "We expect to do around 1,000 massages a month at this location."

Those 1,000 massages will be done by the 13 massage therapists Elements recently hired, working closely with local massage schools to get the best in deep tissue, prenatal, hot stone and trigger point massage for their 55, 80 or 110 minute sessions.

"People come to us who want relaxation," Wiryo said. "But also, people come for more practical care like sport injuries […] Our specialty is to match customers with their needs."

The large facility offers seven regular 30 square foot massage rooms and an eighth couples massage room for a romantic treatment for two.

The co-owner of the building on 40 High St., Donald Ward-Cranley, said he was "very excited to have [Elements] come to Medford" and as a member himself, expects their already 150 member client base to grow throughout the holiday season.

To spark business, Elements is now offering a special deal for first time customers at a discounted rate of $49 and signing-up for a monthly membership package drops the first time visit to $29. Also, Elements is offering a Christmas gift card of two 55 minute massages for $99 or two 80 minute massages for $178.
