Mrs. Felix's Cupcakes to Open Store in North Reading

If you haven't tried Mrs. Felix's cupcakes, you can order some online before the store opens.

Lindsay Felix grew up in North Reading and still lives in town with her husband and three children. For the last 10 years, she has been making cupcakes from scratch for the community free of charge.

After an overwhelming amount of orders, Felix decided to start her own cupcake business online this past May and now is ready to open a store. Mrs. Felix’s Cupcakes will open in town this summer. Felix is still unsure of the date, but hopes it will happen by the end of July.

All of her cupcakes, that she refers to as "simple and delicious," are homemade from scratch without preservatives or any traces of peanuts.

Her two most popular cupcake flavors are chocolate with chocolate cream frosting and golden with vanilla cream frosting. However, she will make any kind you'd like if you place a special order.

"I like to keep them homemade and simple, but of course really good," she said.

The carrot cupcakes are hit, she said. She uses real carrot shreds in the batter when making the actual cupcake and then sprinkles some on top of the vanilla cream cheese frosting.

She also makes Hornet cupcakes with a little hornet on top of the frosting and green and gold sprinkles.

"I sell hundreds of them," she said. "Everyone loves them."

She also offers gluten free cupcakes and cupcakes in a jar if you'd like to ship them as a gift. The cupcakes in a jar are frozen, and ready to eat by the time they arrive at their destination. Freezing them eliminates the need for preservatives when shipping orders.

The average cost: $13 per dozen. Unless it is a special order and she has to buy ingredients that she doesn't have on hand. You can find cupcake lovers coupons on her website and most likely, a monthly promotion as well.

As an active community member, Felix has spent a lot of time on boards and PTO's in North Reading. With three growing children, her cupcake business is a new way to give back to the town. She donates 10 percent of every cupcake sale to a local organization. This month, she is giving those sales to the Bring Back the Fourth Committee. Last month, the sales went to Parks and Recreation.

She is always looking to donate to new organizations. If you are interested, and have a tax exempt status, email mrsfelixscupcakes@verizon.net.

"I'm always looking to stay involved in the community and give back," she said.

She credits the community for her success, and said that word of mouth has played a big part in it.

"The best referral anyone can get is when there is positive feedback, I get a lot of business from other people suggesting it for their friends and family."

Look forward to the store opening in town this summer, until then order from her website, and like her page on Facebook.

I warms lucky enough to find Mrs. Felix's Cupcakes at the Craft Fair In The Park last month. I purchased a dozen plus 4 jars, I had to try at least one of every combination, and they were phenomenal, moist, and flavorful. Can not wait to have them again! Congratulations to Lindsay on keeping thing simple, fresh and delicious. We will find your new store when you open and enjoy your delicious cupcakes once again. North Reading needs more businesses like this, real, wholesome, and loyal!

It will be great to have Mrs Felix open right here in town. Do we have a location?
Michelle Taylor June 18, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Yes! Where?

In addition to donating a percentage of her revenue to help Bring Back the 4th, Lindsay recently donated 6 dozen cupcakes to our bake sale (they were snapped up in a flash!) and is also going to have a booth at the 4th of July event itself. Be sure to stop buy to enjoy her cupcakes and stay for the entertainment and fireworks.

Lindsay is not ready to reveal the location yet. As soon as we know, we'll tell you!

Great! Nice to see some gfree options included! Where will this business be located? Also, does anyone yet know who purchased Lou's Mobil's old site? do we know how it will be used?

I'm wondering the same thing! Last time I checked it was still "confidential" or something because it had just been purchased, and I can't wait to hear what's going to end up there.
Jessica June 18, 2012 at 07:20 PM
I was told it was Mark Hall.

On another thread it was reported that Lew's will be used for Ryer's deliveries and parking.

Jessica you are correct and I was told Nikki is correct also.

If that is true, its a horrible waste of a very nice piece of commercial property in the prettiest part of town.
Nikki June 19, 2012 at 01:15 AM
Mark does mighty fine work, so don't jump to conclusions. I bet we'll be in for a nice surprise.
